Lantern play is a part of the tradition of Mid-Autumn; families will kick off the festival by crafting beautiful lanterns by hand and enjoying free mooncakes. Attendees of all ages will have the chance to learn the significance of lantern-making while crafting their own masterpieces. Families are encouraged to do the crafting together, then carry their handmade lanterns to begin a breathtaking procession into Minoru Park.
As the sun sets, you will be immersed in an enchanting concert sung by the talented Mezzo-soprano Renee Fajardo accompanied by guitarist Mark Richardson. Enjoy moonlight melodies like Moondance, Memory (from Cats), and Habanera (aria from the opera “Carmen”), as well as other well-known songs from the musical theatre and opera repertoire.
About Mid-Autumn Festival
The Mid-Autumn Moon Festival honours the full harvest moon as a symbol of peace, prosperity and togetherness — all good things to celebrate! It occurs on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month which happens sometime between mid September and early October. This is when the moon is at its fullest after the autumnal equinox. It is a popular, happy time of year when families gather to share food, admire the full moon, light lanterns and eat mooncakes.
