Become a Literacy Volunteer with the Writers’ Exchange

by Rebecca Bollwitt

Looking for a volunteer opportunity this summer? The Writers’ Exchange is a community that supports under-resourced kids and youth to build their confidence and get excited about reading, writing and their own potential. They integrate reading and writing into creative activities motivated by the kids’ and youths’ interests that, along with your support, boost self-confidence and engagement with literacy.

All Writers’ Exchange programs are free for the kids, youth and families they serve, so they could not exist without the help of amazing volunteers and generous donors.

Become a Literacy Volunteer with the Writers’ Exchange

Volunteer applications to support summer programs are now available on their website and the summer orientation starts June 9th. Summer programs take place during the day at sites across East Vancouver. Kids and youth get inspired to be creative as they complete fun literacy activities outdoors and in. During many programs kids and youth get to go on field trips where they explore the city. Programs are offered for kids and youth from ages 6-18 (different ages in different programs).

The Writers’ Exchange encourages applications from those who identify as Black, Indigenous, a person of colour, LGBTTIQQ2SA, a newcomer, an English Language Learner, a person with a disability, or any other community that has experienced patterns of discrimination.
