Vancouver Winter Solstice Lantern Festival Miss604

Vancouver’s Winter Solstice Lantern Festival

The winter solstice marks the longest, darkest night of the year. This dance of sun and earth has inspired celebrations of the human spirit throughout the ages, and Vancouver’s Winter Solstice Lantern Festival illuminates the night with lanterns, singing, dancing, music and storytelling.

Yaletown Solstice Event

Activities at the Roundhouse (181 Roundhouse Mews, Vancouver) from 6:00pm to 10:00pm with a lantern procession from 8:00pm-8:45pm. There is a last minute lantern-making workshop for $10 while supplies last. Drop in to make a headdress from ivy and evergreens by donation. Enjoy treats from the food tent.

False Creek/Granville Island

Activities at the False Creek Community Centre on Granville Island (1318 Cartwright St, Vancouver). Lantern processions from the Space Centre and from Leg-in-Boot Square start at 6:00pm, and another from Triangle Square on Granville Island at 6:30pm. All culminate at the water park on Granville Island. There will be entertainment, bands, games and more.

Lantern sales available at the front desk while supplies last. There are fees for some workshops ($10-$20) and to do the Labyrinth of Light.
