Statement from the league: “This vision became a reality in vivid technicolour this year as of April 16, 2025 when the league opened play in Vancouver in front of over 14,000 fans. And the six founding clubs in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax have brought fans to their feet ever since. And Season #1 is just the start.

We steadfastly believe that the NSL will be the catalyst to inspire children across the country, to become involved in the sport. To see themselves in the players. To be inspired to play, coach or manage. And to be part of a new generation in Canadian sport. We are also all committed to bringing our collective passion, experience, sport backgrounds, and business acumen to help elevate the NSL to be a top global centre of talent. On Canadian soil. This is nation-building in action.

The Northern Super League’s championship trophy, the Diana B. Matheson Cup, is named in honour of Diana Matheson, a former star of the women’s national team and founder of the Canadian women’s soccer league. On Saturday the Cup will be lifted for the very first time at the NSL Final, marking the close of a historic inaugural season and the beginning of a new Canadian soccer tradition.

Vancouver Rise FC, who play at Swangard Stadium, had a league-best attendance this season (supported by Crow Collective and many others) and finished with a 11-8-6 record. AFC Toronto won the Supporters’ Shield trophy as the regular season champions with a 16-3-6 record and topped the table by 12 points over Ottawa Rapid FC and the Vancouver Rise.
