At the heart of the programme is Derek Holman’s Sir Christëmas suite, brimming with humour, wassail songs, and the playful rivalry of holly and ivy. Joyful, rhythmically spirited, and rich with contrast, this largely secular multi-movement treasure sparkles with wit and warmth, and provides the perfect foil to the season’s more contemplative and sacred offerings.
Surrounding Holman’s suite is a rich tapestry of contemporary works. Elektra is proud to give the world premiere of Gerda Blok-Wilson’s As if New-Created, written especially for the choir, a luminous new addition to the Canadian repertoire. The program also includes Kelly-Marie Murphy’s radiant carols infused with harp, and Andrew Balfour’s Wyandot’s Realm, a poignant retelling that challenges the legacy of the familiar Huron Carol. Together, these works round out a festive celebration of wonder, community, and joy.
From local stages to global platforms, Elektra inspires audiences with performances that celebrate the expressive power and unique beauty of adult treble voices. Follow the choir on Facebook and Instagram for updates.
