Surrey

Surrey Fire Fighters’ Annual Tree Chip
Where: Guildford Town Centre (105 Ave & 150 St)
When: Saturday, January 7, 2023 from 8:00am to 4:00pm
Details:  Since 1994, Surrey Fire Fighters have been chipping trees and collecting donations benefiting the Surrey Fire Fighters Charitable Society for youth and family programs. Trees are accepted to be chipped with a small cash donation.

Clayton Heights Secondary Tree Chip & Bottle Drive
Where: Clayton Heights Secondary School (7003 188 St)
When: Saturday, January 7, 2023 from 9:00am to 3:00pm
Details: The grads of Clayton Heights Secondary School are hosting a tree chipping and bottle drive event to raise money for their dry grad. Trees and bottles/cans can be dropped off at the school on January 7th. Tree chipping is by donation.

Langley

1st Walnut Grove Scouts
Where: Walnut Grove Secondary School (8919 Walnut Grove Drive)
When: Saturday, December 31 & Saturday, January 7, 2023 from 9:00am to 2:00pm
Details: Tree chipping offered by donation. Pick up services available for a minimum $10 donation per tree picked up in Walnut Grove, $20 per tree picked up in Fort Langley. Contact Brent Japp to request pick up at [email protected] or 604-720-4805. Funds will be used to send youth to camp, purchase camping equipment, and other youth activities.

1st Willoughby Scouts
Where: Willoughby Elementary School (20766 80 Ave)
When: Saturday, January 7, 2023 from 9:00am to 4:00pm
Details: Chipping by donation. Tree pick up services available subject to minimum donation – $10 within Willoughby area, $20 outside Willoughby. Contact 604-619-6504 for pick up. A bottle drive will be held at the same time as the chipping event. Refundable beverage containers gratefully accepted.

2nd Brookswood Eagles assisted by 1st Fort Langley Venturer Scouts
Where: Brookswood Secondary School (20902 37A Ave)
When: Saturday, January 7, 2023 from 9:00am to 4:00pm
Details: Tree chipping offered by donation. A bottle drive will be held at the same time as the chipping event. Refundable beverage containers gratefully accepted. Funds raised will be used to support scouting activities.

D.W. Poppy Dry Grad
Where: D.W. Poppy Secondary School (23752 – 52 Avenue)
When: Saturday, January 7, 2023 from 10:00am to 4:00pm

Port Moody Fire Rescue Drive Through Christmas Tree Chip
Where: Inlet Centre Fire Hall (150 Newport Drive, Port Moody)
When: Saturday, January 7 & Sunday, January 8, 2023 10:00am to 4:00pm
Details: Help firefighters raise money for the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund. Members of Port Moody Firefighters Local 2399 will be chipping trees by donation ($5 minimum) at this drive-through event. 

BONUS Centralized Recycling Day
Where:
 Recreation Complex parking lot (300 Ioco Road, Port Moody)
When: Saturday, January 7, 2023 from 10:00am to 3:00pm
Details:
 Recycle your wrap (and so much more!) at our Centralized Recycling Day. Port Moody residents can drop off paper gift wrap and boxes, Styrofoam and packaging, and plastic film. Please note that Styrofoam and plastic film must be bagged separately. Ribbons, bows, foil gift wrap, regular household garbage, and glass will not be accepted.

Details: You can drop your tree off yourself, or complete request form below to have your tree picked up from your home for chipping. Drop-off yourself: Minimum $10 donation; Arrange pick-up: Minimum $20 donation. Your donation will benefit the Port Coquitlam Fire Fighters Charitable Society. Firefighters volunteer their time for this event and all wood chips created are used in city parks and trails.

Vancouver

Mount Pleasant Tree Chip
Where: Kingsgate Mall Upper East Side Parking Lot (370 East Broadway).
When: Sunday, January 8, 2023 from 10:00am to 4:00pm
Details:  Bring your Christmas tree in support of the Mt Pleasant Elementary School. Get it chipped for a monetary donation (via cash, debit or credit). Funds raised will help provide equipment and experiences for the Mt Pleasant Elementary school students.

Christmas Tree Recycling at UBC Botanical Garden
Where: UBC Botanical Garden (6804 SW Marine Drive)
When: December 26, 2022 to January 8, 2023, 10:00am to 2:00pm
Details:  Bring your tree to UBC Botanical Garden and they will chip it into mulch to use on pathways. They also collect donations that directly support a local school garden project. This year donations will support students at Britannia Community Elementary located in the Grandview Woodland neighbourhood. Help SPEC (Society Promoting Environmental Conservation) continue to provide free and equitable access to vulnerable students as part of their gardening program which includes a focus on ecological literacy. Students are currently fundraising to renovate their gardening space to replace three very old and damaged garden beds, purchase compost and create a pollinator-friendly habitat.

Lion’s Club Tree Chipping
When: Saturday, January 7 & Sunday, January 8, 2023 from 10:00am to 4:00pm
Details: Bring your Christmas trees to one of four Lions Club Chipping Events (King George Secondary School parking lot; Kitsilano Beach parking lot; Kerrisdale Ice Arena parking lot; Trout Lake Community Centre parking lot) for chipping and composting. Donations of cash and non-perishable food items are welcome and will be distributed to local charities.

Other options in the City of Vancouver include:

Households with City Green Bin service are eligible for curbside Christmas tree and extra leaf collection on designated weekends in January. Tree collection schedule:

  • North collection zones: January 14 and 15, 2023
  • South collection zones: January 21 and 22, 2023

Important note Check the collection schedule and enter your address to confirm your tree collection date.

How to set your tree out for pick-up:

  • Place the tree in the same location you set out your bins and make sure it’s visible from the lane or street
  • Lay the tree on its side
  • Leave the tree loose (no bags, string, or rope)

Pieces should be less than 50 cm in length (18 in) and less than 10 cm (4 in) in diameter. Be sure the green bin is loosely packed and the lid closes completely.

You can also drop off your tree for free at the Vancouver South Transfer Station or Vancouver Landfill until January 31.

Burnaby

Residential tree collection takes place between January 9-27, 2023. Leave the tree out by your regular pickup area anytime during these dates and we will pick up as soon as possible. If you receive weekly City collection services, you’re eligible for the curbside pickup service. 

  • Only natural trees can be recycled–artificial trees or those covered in snow foam cannot.
  • It must be free of any ornaments, tinsel or lights.
  • It goes out next to your green bin–or chopped up and placed into the green bin with a closed lid.  

Christmas Tree Drop Off: Burnaby’s Eco-Centre (4855 Still Creek Drive) also accepts Christmas trees free of charge from Burnaby residents (proof of residency required).

Delta

North Delta Lions Club Tree Chip
Where: Ladner Memorial Park (5010 47 Ave) & Sungod Arena (7825 112 St)
When: Saturday, January 7 & Sunday, January 8, 2023 9:00am to 4:00pm
Details: Your donations through tree chipping keep the North Delta Lions Club up and running to provide services to North Delta and Ladner. They provide equipment for the Hillside Boys and Girls Club yearly using your donations as well as many bursaries.

New Westminster

New Westminster Firefighters Christmas Tree Chipping
Where: City Hall, 511 Royal Avenue
When:
 Saturday, January 7 & Sunday, January 8 from 10:00am to 3:00pm
Details:
 Join the New Westminster Firefighters Charitable Society for this event in front of City Hall. Bring your Christmas tree for chipping.

North Vancouver

Upper Lonsdale Preschool Tree Chip
Where: DNV East Parking Lot (355 W Queens Road)
When: January 7 & January 8, 2022 10:00am to 4:00pm
Details: Bring your Christmas tree for chipping (by cash donation). You can also have your tree picked up, for a minimum $30 donation.

North Shore Scouts Tree Chip-Up

    Good morning,

    Could you please list our event? We will be holding our 8th annual Christmas tree chipping event benefitting the Canadian Cancer Society on January 7 and 8 2023.

    It will be held at Willowbrook Shopping Center from 9am to 5pm both days at the corner of 197 Street and Willowbrook Drive.

    Trees will be accepted by donation. We will not be accepting pop bottles. Donations can be made by cash or card.
