Science World has launched a fundraising and awareness campaign named “The World Needs More Nerds” calling for its followers to join the nerd revolution and help fundraise to keep the geodesic dome’s doors open. Dr. Bonnie Henry can be seen as a smiling 7-year old in the campaign imagery and Astronaut Chris Hadfield has also agreed to be featured in the campaign to help bring awareness to fundraising efforts.

The iconic dome has been closed since March 14th and when it reopens, it will be open to a very different world from before. A clear truth that’s emerged from all of this change is that science is essential and is needed more than ever. The world needs more nerds!

What do they mean by a nerd? A nerd is someone who loves what they love, no matter what. They bring passion, wonder and curiosity to everything they do. Nerds are all-in. That’s the nerd way. Always 100%, because 110% is not scientifically possible.

At Science World, nerds are heroes. BC Public Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry. Astronaut Chris Hadfield. Chief Public Health Officer of Canada Dr. Theresa Tam. Anishinabek Nation Chief Water Commissioner Autumn Peltier. People who roll up their sleeves and do hard work for the good of everyone.

The world needs more people like this. Wonder seekers. Problem solvers. World changers.

Science World is in the business of inspiring nerds. And now, they need help from the community to ensure they are still here to do that tomorrow. They are encouraging everyone to check out its fundraising campaign and consider supporting it. Some examples of ways to support include:

  • Make an individual donation
  • Be the ultimate-superstar-nerd and fundraise on their easy-to-use platform. Rally friends and donate this year’s birthday to nerds! Nominate the Nerdiest Nerd, and raise money in their name! Unite a group of friends or colleagues to see who can pull off the best Science World experiment! Or just nerd out on a subject you’ve been wanting to learn more about and raise money as you follow your nerdiness wherever it takes you.

Every dollar raised goes toward helping Science World stay open. Nerds find themselves at Science World, and the world needs more nerds.
