Culture Days represents the largest-ever collective public participation campaign undertaken by the arts and cultural community in Canada with thousands of free, hands-on, interactive activities that invite the public to create, participate and share.
Inspiring greater public participation in arts, culture and heritage, Port Moody, Coquitlam, and Port Coquitlam will host over 20 free events. Here’s what’s happening in Port Coquitlam:

The Secret Life of Trees
When: Friday, September 28 from 9:30am to 5:00pm
& Saturday, September 29 from 9:30am to 5:00pm
Where: PoCo Heritage Museum and Archive (2248 McAllister Avenue)
About: Join us in the PoCo Heritage Museum and Archives for our annual Carol Hubbard Memorial Natural History Exhibit! “The Secret Life of Trees” is an exhibit created in collaboration with the PoCo Heritage Trees community group. This close-up and intimate exhibit will explore the magnificent solitary giants that we live amongst and with. The exhibit includes an enchanting indoor forest, and many fun and engaging activities including a woodland scavenger hunt, leaf colouring, and a take-home tree seed planting activity!
Feeding our Culture, Breastfeeding Celebration at Terry Fox
When: Friday, September 28 from 10:00am to 12:00pm
Where: Terry Fox Library (2470 Mary Hill Road)
About: Calling all parents! Feed your babies. Feed our culture! Kick off Canada’s National Breast Feeding week. Join us to celebrate all the different ways to nurture your baby. Door prizes, guest speakers and refreshments available. Siblings, family members and friends welcome.
Dorothy Doherty | Field Notes & Paper Diaries
When: Friday, September 28 from 1:00 to 5:00pm
& Saturday, September 29 from 9:00am to 5:00pm
Where: Michael Wright Art Gallery at The Gathering Place (2253 Leigh square, Port Coquitlam)
About: Visit artist Dorothy Doherty’s exhibition Field Notes & Paper Diaries: Explorations in Paint and Paper, featuring works created as part of her three-month residency at Leigh Square focused on the accumulation of paper in our lives. Artworks on display take the form of paper on panel, small paper sculptures, as well as mixed media and painting.
Artists in the Library at Terry Fox
When: Saturday, September 29 from 12:00pm to 3:00pm
Where: Terry Fox Library (2470 Mary Hill Road)
About: Come celebrate Culture Days 2018 with an amazing interactive ceramics display. Potter and ceramic artist Clive Tucker will demonstrate how to make imaginative sculptures and pots in clay. All ages welcome.
Collage Workshop with Artist in Residence Dorothy Doherty
When: Saturday, September 29 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm
Where: Michael Wright Art Gallery at The Gathering Place (2253 Leigh square, Port Coquitlam)
About: Unleash your creative side with a FREE collage workshop taught by Artist in Residence Dorothy Doherty. An accomplished Vancouver-area artist, Dorothy’s practice includes mixed media, painting, drawing, sculpting, printmaking, and ceramics. Join this exciting workshop exploring collage and the element of rhythm. Suitable for everyone from beginners to advanced artists and makers. Materials are provided.
The Secret Life of Trees Downtown Walking Tour
When: Sunday, September 30, from 1:00pm to 2:30pm
Where: PoCo Heritage Museum and Archive (2248 McAllister Avenue)
About: Join us for an eye-opening walking tour that will lead you through Downtown Port Coquitlam and its gorgeous gardens and parks. Over the course of the tour you will get to explore much of the city’s natural history, including information and stories about Port Coquitlam’s many gardens and heritage trees. This tour is part of the PoCo Heritage Museum and Archives’ annual Carol Hubbard Memorial Natural History Exhibit: “The Secret Life of Trees”. Watercolour to Music inspired by Paul Klee – Open House

About: Join us for an afternoon of water colouring to music. Inspired by the great Paul Klee’s love of music and watercolour painting. No fee, everyone welcome. A line is a dot that went for a walk. – Paul Klee
