Situated between Swan Lake, Kalamalka Lake, and Okanagan Lake, there’s a reason that Vernon is known for its water recreation. However, with new bike lanes, paths, and the legendary Rail Trail making tracks through the northern Okanagan city, it’s also become a great place to go for a ride.

The City of Vernon has a network of gravel, paved, multi-use, and separated/dedicated bike lanes. Some of the best routes are in the Downtown Shopping Core, along 29th Street, 30th Street, 30th Ave, 32nd Ave, and 39th Ave. From Polson Park, there is also a great roadside route that will take you right to the north end of Kalamalka Lake, along Kalamalka Lake Road. You’ll meet up with the folks at the Rail Trail Cafe and Kalavida Surf Shop, at the base of the Rail Trail.

The Rail Trail is the northern part of the 50km path called the Okanagan Rail Trail, that reaches all the way down to Oliver along an old CPR railway corridor. Through Lake Country, Kelowna, Summerland, and Oliver, that will be fully linked by the end of the summer.
