Foodie Fun in Summerland
byCity foodies might be used to a four-top with photo-ready lighting and Instagram accounts set to fire off stories and pics of the latest, hippest culinary trend. However I invite everyone to walk the orchards, stroll the vines, and sample the sweet flavours of the Okanagan in Summerland, BC.
Foodie Fun in Summerland
On assignment for ZenSeekers, wherein I ate my fair share of candies and generously stacked ice cream cones, I discovered that beyond the orchards and vines, there was a longstanding tradition of local, organic, and downright delicious baking and cooking.
1) True Grain Breads (10108 Main Street, Summerland)
Coffee and pastries at http://www.truegrain.ca/ are a staple any productive morning. Sweet or savoury, they’re pulling goodness out of the oven all morning and stocking the cafe with pretzels, buns, loaves, cookies, danishes and more including take-away items like their organic flours for baking at home.
2) Maple Roch (13224 Victoria Rd N, Summerland)
Saddling up to sample maple syrup at Maple Roch is just a great treat. From cosmetic sugar scrubs, to granola, ice cream toppings, caramels, and even maple syrup mustard that takes honey mustard to a whole other level. It’s your one stop shop for maple in the valley.
3) Summerland Sweets (6206 Canyon View Rd, Summerland)
Summerland Sweets has generations of local growers and producers who put their stamp on legendary syrups, candies, and wines. They also have an ice cream counter and picnic tables so you can hang out for a while by the orchards, in the shadow of iconic Giant’s Head Mountain.
