Whalley Little League’s 60th Anniversary
byWhalley Little League has been a part of life in Surrey since 1956 and it has developed a legacy of excellence in the decades since. From the “Grandfathers of Baseball in the Lower Mainland” to winning 153 titles in four age categories, including 59 district pennants, 60 provincial championships, and 34 national crowns. Whalley Little League has also represented Canada at the Little League World Series in Williamsport in 1973, 1978, 1997, and 2005.
I grew up in Whalley, just around the corner from the ball park, and now my nephew plays Whalley Little League ball. It’s a big part of my family story, and a big part of Surrey’s.
Whalley Little League’s 60th Anniversary
To celebrate this strong part of Surrey’s heritage, and its continuing tradition of community building, Whalley Little League is hosting a 60th anniversary event on July 9th from 1:00pm to 7:00pm at their home ballpark (106a Ave & 133rd St).
There will be a BBQ, beer garden, children’s play area and the recognition of life members and alumni. Speeches, a cake cutting and the unveiling of a few additions to the park are scheduled for 2:00pm. An alumni game is scheduled for 3:30pm. Enjoy the park, mingle, have a cold beer in the beer garden and watch some of the many baseball games going on that day, as they will be right in the middle of the exciting All Star season.
If you know any past players and families that would be interested in attending, please spread the word by sharing the Facebook event page and this RSVP page.
Follow Whalley Little League on Facebook and Twitter for more announcements and information leading up to the festivities.
