Earth Day in Stanley Park

The Stanley Park Ecology Society (“SPES”) is hosting Earth Day in Stanley Park on Saturday, April 23, 2016.

Earth Day in Stanley Park

• Where: All events will be based at the Stanley Park Nature House on Lost Lagoon at the corner of Chilco & Alberni Streets.
• When: Saturday, April 23, 2016 from 10:00am to 4:00pm
  Tree Wrapping & Lost Lagoon Tour 12:15pm to 1:00pm & 2:45 to 3:30pm
  Invasive Plant Pull 12:30pm to 2:30pm
  Invasive Ivy Weaving, drop-in between 10:00am and 4:00pm
• Tickets: None required, it’s free! There will also be free refreshments, crafts for the kids, and chalk drawing fun will round out the day.

SPES will be engaging the public in a series this day of events including invasive plant removal, water quality monitoring, beaver tree wrapping, and other stewardship activities. Earth Day is also the perfect time to the Conservation Corner in the Stanley Park Nature House. This is a fresh educational display that aims to inspire and engage visitors better about SPES’ active conservation, research and habitat enhancement.

Based atop the Nature House on Lost Lagoon, the public is encouraged to drop by and be engaged in the upcycling / weaving of English ivy into bionets that will be destined for new placements in the Park to repurpose biomass while acting as erosion control.

Park Board Chair Sarah Kirby-Yung and MLA Spencer Chandra Herbert will be on hand to kick off the event at 11:00am followed by the official unveiling of our new “Conservation Corner” exhibit in the Nature House at 11:20am.

SPES works year-round to manage the impact of 8 million visitors per year on Stanley Park. Your support helps them conserve this natural space for the benefit of visitors and wildlife alike.
