Authors for Indies: Celebrating the Independent Book Store
byLocal authors, prizes, kittens! Kittens? Yes. Book Warehouse in Vancouver is just one of the many independent Canadian book stores coast-to-coast that is being celebrated during Authors for Indies Day on April 30th.
Authors for Indies
Independent bookstores from Victoria to Halifax are hosting more than 600 authors this year who will be signing books, talking shop with book lovers and showing their support. Authors for Indies Day is a grassroots event organized in support of Canada’s independent bookstores. On this day, authors across the country will volunteer at their local indies to greet customers, recommend books, and celebrate the vital role of independent bookstores in both the book industry and our communities.
As a published author myself, I was thrilled (and still am) to see my book available at Book Warehouse and Black Bond. Christmas and birthday shopping isn’t the same without a trip to Banyen Books, and I wouldn’t have been able to meet one of my favourite authors without a stop at a local book store in Chilliwack a few years ago.
On April 30th, authors are coming out of the woodwork, packing independent bookstores like Book Warehouse, 32 Books, Black Bond Books Central City, and more across the region. Bif Naked is signing books, Janie Chang will be talking with fans, Rachel Hartman and Lisa Voisin will be connecting with young readers who love their dragons and vampires.
Book Warehouse will indeed have kittens at their event too, courtesy of the Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association (“VOKRA”).
