South Africa, with its diverse population, rich tradition of struggle for democracy and equity, and complex political and economic reality, has produced numerous outstanding films. The movies you will see at VSAFF are among those.
This year’s lineup includes the award-winning documentary The Shore Break, and the critically-acclaimed Afrikaans film Dis ek, Anna. Each year VSAFF screens also one film from an African country other than South Africa. Ethiopia is this year’s spotlight country with Difret, a Sundance award winner from producer Angelina Jolie.
VSAFF is a non-profit event organized entirely by volunteers, and all proceeds go to support the important education development work Education without Borders. To date, the VSAFF has raised $84,000 for EwB and organizers are confident that this is the most significant festival of South African films that happens outside of South Africa every year.
