The Fair at the PNE returns for the season from August 22nd to September 7th and Vancity Savings Credit Union is proud to sponsor the annual Vancity Member Day on September 3rd. Vancity members and a guest can enjoy a fun-filled day at the Fair for only $5 each.

Vancity Member Day at the PNE

To receive the discounted admission, present your Vancity MEMBER CARD® debit card or Vancity enviro™ Visa, (or another form of membership verification), at any Fair at the PNE ticket booth on Thursday, September 3, 2015. Gates open at 11:00am.

Vancity Eco Alley

On top of saving $11 off adult admission to the Fair, Vancity members – and other fairgoers – can all stop by the Vancity Eco Zone to find out how Vancity is supporting the PNE on their journey of going green. Get fun facts and helpful tips on how you can go green at home through our fun and interactive activities.

Last year, Vancity worked with PNE in making Vancity Member Day a Zero Waste Event where 95% of event waste was diverted from landfill – in a 12 hour period, 58,000 PNE fairgoers only generated 9 bags of garbage! This year they will once again make Vancity Member Day a Zero Waste Event with help from community partner, Green Chair Recycling and dedicated staff volunteers.

Vancity’s Eco Alley will be a fun, informative and interactive area where PNE guests can learn about current PNE green initiatives, share ideas about further reducing the environmental impact of the PNE and find out new ways to be greener in their day-to-day lives. Vancity Brand Ambassadors will be onsite during The Fair to share the PNE’s journey to sustainability at the Vancity Eco Zone near the Livestock Barns on Saturday, August 28 through to Monday, September 7, 2015.

How can you be more green at the PNE? Ride your bike to the fair! There will be a complimentary Vancity-supported bicycle valet service. The bike valet stations are set up inside Gate 1.

    2. Laundry is done 1x/week and only uses cold water for washing
    3. Clothes are being hung on the line outside..why not make use of all this sun were getting
    4. Toilet has a mini jug of milk so that less water is being used for every flush
    5. All lights have been converted to “smart” lighting/energy efficient

  97. Amber LFriday, August 21st, 2015 — 1:42pm PDT

Our family has taken recycling to the next level. Everything recyclable gets recycled. Items that can’t go into the city blue bin are now taken to the Burnaby Eco-Center, which takes almost everything you can imagine (metal, pastic, styrofoam, paint, batteries, large appliances, etc.). We take a trip every three to four weeks to drop off our recyclables. It’s a great one stop recycling spot. We reduced our household garbage by more than half. We were also fortunate enough to have space in our yard for a vegetable garden this year. Backyard fruit and veggies are the best!
