The first Sunday in June sees tens of thousands of people take to Hastings street in Burnaby Heights for Hats Off Day, a free family festival where Heights merchants “take their hats off” to their community and their customers. This is a huge one-day extravaganza featuring a colourful main-street style parade with real local flavour, followed by a big street party.
Burnaby Heights Hats Off Day 2015
Where Hastings Street between Boundary Road and Gamma Avenue
When Saturday, June 6, 2015 from 9:30am to 4:00pm
This entire ten block stretch of Hastings is shut down to traffic and the streets get packed with activities, entertainment, and delicious food samples. It’s fun for every age and it’s also dog friendly so bring your four-legged family members too. With multiple activities and attractions, each block has something to experience.
Family Fun Dash
The day kicks off with the Family Fun Dash where families dash down Hastings Street in a three-block race, starting at 9:30am. The start line is at Madison Avenue and the finish line is at MacDonald Avenue. All proceeds benefit the Burnaby Firefighters Charitable Society. Following the Family Fun Dash, the Hats Off Day Parade starts at 10:00am. This 10 block long parade begins at Beta Avenue and proceeds down Hastings Street up to Boundary Road. You can expect plenty of glitz and glam parading down Hastings with the theme as “Hollywood” this year.
Show and Shine
The Show & Shine will begin at approximately 11:00am, immediately following the Parade. As in previous years, the Show & Shine takes place along Hastings Street between Willingdon and Gamma Avenues. Once the Show and Shine begins, volunteer judges will be inspecting the vehicles after they are parked on Hastings Street.
