CRAFT Beer Market Opening: Win Tickets
byThe much-anticipated CRAFT Beer Market is set to open November 7th in the old Salt Building in the heart of The Village on False Creek. This mega pub will have the most taps in Canada with 140 beers on tap — 50 of which are brewed right here in BC.
The 13,000-square-foot space has room for 400 seats, plus a 50-person patio. Inside, the architecture of the circa-1930 Salt Building, which was actually used for storing and packing salt back in the day, has been lovingly preserved. The feel is of an airy, vintage warehouse, with rough-hewn timbers criss-crossing overhead and light filtering in from massive windows. The open space is dominated by a large, oval-shaped bar, with a pair of mezzanine areas overhead. [Inside Vancouver]
Venue features include the original wood structure from the 1930s, high ceilings, and historic trusses. The kitchen has an open concept, there is a private room and mezzanine level for special events, it is Certified LEED Gold, and the largest LEAF Certified Restaurant in Canada. Over 250 kegs in house hold 5,000 gallons of beer (over 19,000 litres), and flow through over 3km of draft lines.
Of course you have to pair all of this beer goodness with great food so the focus will be on North American cuisine, drawing from local inspiration and ingredients. Gluten-free options, Sunday brunch, an extensive wine and cocktail menu will diversify CRAFT Beer Market’s offerings.

Favourite Canadian beer; this is a very tough call. I commissioned a cask for my recent wedding, from Bridge Brewing, in North Vancouver, and it would have to be my favourite. But, since we are probably talking about beers available on the market, honourable mentions go to Powell Street Old Jalopy Pale Ale, and Driftwood White Bark. My favourite, though, has to be Crannog’s Back Hand of God stout.
Great contest! I hope I win!
St. Ambroise Pale Ale. Not necessarily the best beer today in Canada, but still my favourite because it was so unique back in the early 90’s and remains every bit as good. Even better on a Montreal summer patio without the BC markup.
Powell Street’s Ode to Citra is a beauty. Or Lord of the Hops from P49.
Most often I drink wine or scotch but I enjoy 33 Acres of Ocean from 33 Acres Brewing Co. Great local micro brew.
Unibroue, Maudite
Red Racer IPA
Central City Imperial IPA
Storm’s Black Plague is my current fave.
I like hoppy west coast IPAs, like Phillips Blue Buck. Just spent last weekend visiting the new 33 Acres and Brassneck Breweries here in Vancouver, and found plenty of tasty treats at both.
Howe Sound Lager!
Belle Royale by driftwood. Tart, sour, and a bit of cherry to balance it out with a touch of sweetness. Yum!
Very hard to only pick one, but I thknk I’ll have to go with Dark Matter from Hoyne.
I really like the Mutiweizen from Brassneck Brewery, but most brews from Powell Street and Parallel 49 are pretty much guaranteed to be awesome.
With Vancouver’s microbreweries putting out such great stuff there is no need to choose just one beer for all seasons. p49’s Hopnotist is a favourite but not always available, Driftwood’s White Bark, Powell’s spring/summer seasonal Witbier, p49s Ugly sweater….
So many to choose from… Central City’s Red Racer IPA!
Whistler Brewing Bear Paw Honey Lager
Caman! Fat Tug IPA by Driftwood Brewing
I love anything from Phillips Brewery, but I really love thier hopcircle beers.

Favourite Canadian beer is a tough one – depending on the season, there could be many. I’d have to go with Fat Tug.
Favourite Canadian beer is Driftwood’s Pale Ale, by a razor thin margin. I have many delicious favourites.
I’m going with either Lord Of The Hops (Parallel 49) or Wee Angry Scotch Ale (Russell), depending on the time of year!
SO EXCITED for CRAFT to open up in the Olympic village. Actually equal parts excited and concerned, considering the amount of future hours and $$ I will be logging in there.
Very tough call on fav Canadian beer – I’m going to have to go with the good-all-year-round Phillips Blue Buck
Really looking forward to this venue opening. It’ll be a great place to end seawall walks in the summer.
Think my all time favourite Canadian beer is still the Storm Black Plague. So dark you can’t shine a light through it.
It depends on the situation, but the best beer I’ve sampled recently is Persephone Brewing’s stout.
If I have to choose just one… Killer Bee dark honey ale from Tin Whistle in Penticton.
My favourite is even local – Parallel 49 Gypsy Tears Ruby Ale. De-lish.
