Exposure Video Editing Contest from Dear Rouge

Comments 1 by Rebecca Bollwitt

It’s been almost a year since I first met Drew and Danielle McTaggart from Dear Rouge at a local coffee shop to interview them about being a Top 25 finalist for the Peak Performance Project. Eight months, one championship title (winning the Peak Performance Project), a cross-Canada tour, Canada Music Week gigs, festival showcases, and Dear Rouge is riding high with no signs of slowing.

They’re now crowd-sourcing the editing of their latest music video, which somehow they found the time to film.

Exposure Video Editing Contest

Dear Rouge is giving filmmakers the opportunity to create their new music video with Exposure: “A film making competition that highlights the often overshadowed editing process and provides a platform for young artists to gain the experience and exposure required to hold their own in a competitive field.”

The video is for their current single “Thinking About You” and they already have all the footage, they just need someone who can weave it all together and turn it into a masterpiece of their own. Aspiring editors can sign up and create a profile on the campaign site, download the pre-shot footage, and compete to show off their unique interpretation of “Thinking About You”. From there, contestants can upload their completed videos to Vimeo and the band will select a winner from the top three videos with the most “likes”.

The top 5 films will be screened at a gala event featuring top industry players and capped off with a special live performance by Dear Rouge. There are cash prizes, exposure, prestige, and credits up for grabs.

“The Exposure contest seeks to cross the artistic spectrum and unite young artists from a variety of fields. The goal is to cultivate a self-sustaining network of artists from different backgrounds that discover and support each other as they develop their work – a contest by artists for artists, looking to help each other out.”

Edits are due by April 30, 2013 and then the voting process will run from May 1 to May 15, 2013. The top 3 will be announced May 16 followed by the close of the competition at the end of May.
