Dusty’s Dinotown Closing
byThose who grew up in Metro Vancouver or the Fraser Valley might still call it “Flintstone’s Bedrock City” (home of the 40-foot Fred) but Dusty’s Dinotown — North America’s only cartoon dinosaur town — will soon be extinct.
The attraction is set to close September 6th and they’re currently offering unlimited rides and a blowout on other activities before it closes its sabre-tooth gates forever.
After 35 years of business the pre-historic park in Bridal Falls, between Chilliwack and Hope, has sold off its 18 acres to a developer who will turn the area into an RV Park. It was recently reported however, that the City of Surrey is eying Dusty, pedal cars and all.
Owner Rob Ell told the Surrey Leader that he’s been approached by the City of Surrey, South Surrey, the Aldergrove Zoo, the City of Burnaby and even an ostrich farm to see if he would like to relocate Dinotown.
Though the popularity of dinosaurs has never waned, one wonders of the success a new cartoon Dinotown venture could achieve. Nevertheless, our childhood times spent at Bedrock City (in Mister Slate’s office and on the driving range) created lifetime memories.

Whoa, I remember their TV ad …
I miss the Flintstones park. =( It was so good when I was little!!
I just want to say thanks for your blog. It has been so helpful and I’ve gone to so many things that you have recommended.
I wish we had more theme parks in Vancouver/Lower Mainland, or at least one. I know it sounds so “tourist”, but I think it would be neat to have. I remember a couple years back, there was talk of having a big amusement park here, but it never really happened.
I suddenly had a vision of “Hannah Montana Land” and I started to shutter…. I take it all back!
Somewhere i have family slides of going there for brother Dan’s childhood birthday and paddling in the square canoes, foot-pushing the cars and exploring the buildings.
Must be a surreal cartoon ghostland.
FYI – the dinosaur statues in the “Dinosaur Park” area date from the 1960s, and were originally located at the original Dinosaur Park in Haney
Here’s a picture at Flintstone Park circa 1978 with 4 of my sons. Bob, Dave (aka Uncleweed), Dan & James! I was preggers with son #5 at the time (Andrew). We went to the park several times over the years and had terrific family fun times there. Sorry to hear it is soon a thing of the past. http://users.zhonka.net/manorbooks/FlintstonePark.jpg
Growing up as a child we always drove past it, and I always saw the billboards on the side of the highway for it. Sadly my parents never stopped there, nor was there any talk of ever going 🙁 – It is sad to see such a historic part of the lower mainland closing. I really hope that some of the items there are able to find new homes and will continue to bring smiles to a newer generation.
@s.preston—More like ”Beiberville” eek
My favourite was always the paddle boats. My son had his 5th birthday party there and it was a ton of fun. You can bring your own bbq and food too.
Wow. I have a very faint memory of going there when I was very young, probably when it first opened. But it could have been a dream. I was a dino-fanatic as a kid, though.
I remember this park!! When I went there as a kid, I remember it being called Flintstone Park too!!! I loved it! 😀
My first job was Flintstones in the early 80’s. It was a perfect place for a first job – the Ell’s ran a top notch place there. It was a fun place to work, you learned customer service, running the store, cooking wieners, and playing with the soft ice cream machine! Awesome summer job and great learning experience – especially dealing with little kids trying to push you over when you’re dressed in the character suits – will never forget Fred rolling down the hill after being pushed over!!
Just went there a few days ago with my boyfriend and another friend to relive old memories. I’m so sad it’s closing. I cried a little bit as we left and got tons of pictures. I’m going to miss this place. I wish it would stay a bit longer so that when I have kids I can take them there for their own memories.
Oops really its a very sad news.
I went Sept 5th 2010 with my buddy and his daughter.
I am very disappointed it is closing but glad i have lots of child hood pictures and updated ones recently taken.
any word yet on if it will be rebuilt and where?
