omg i so cannot imagine spending the day at PNE in august in heels and a pinafore! those poor woman. cool pictures.
Great rollercoaster photo – guy on the right doesn’t seem as relaxed as his friend.
One of the recent PNE TV ads actually includes video footage of the rollercoaster in action http://bit.ly/9fLJq8 as well as many other old photos from the PNE vault.
That prefab home sold last year for $795,000
Pictures are great!
Thanks for sharing these photo’s. Brilliant!
I swear the lady in the middle of the second picture is your Oma!
oh man I am such a sucker for old black and white photos, just cant see my parents in any of these shots – too BAD!
I’m 43 and I grew up in Vancouver – I have a lot of fond PNE / Playland memories, including –
– The “chairlift” that ran east/west from one end of the park to the other. Great fun dropping pennies on people. IIRC it didn’t have safety bars or belts or anything.
– The “big yellow slide.” You hiked up many stairs and then rode down on burlap sacks.
– The big sign near the burger stand at Playland that just said “EAT” in big letters.
– Going to visit the Challenger Relief Map of BC.
