Terracotta Warrior Public Art Project
byEvery few years the BC Lions Society has been presenting a public art installation involving pieces decorated by local artists that would then be auctioned off. We had Bears in the City, Orcas in the City, Eagles in the City, and to coincide with the Royal BC Museum’s upcoming exhibit, we’ll have the Terracotta Warrior Public Art Project in 2011.
Unlike the bears, orcas and eagles, there will only be a limited number of terracotta pieces around the city. Artists will be given a 7-foot tall fiberglass replica of a terracotta warrior to use as their canvas. The pieces will then be placed around the Metro Vancouver and Greater Victoria from November 2011 until April 2012 and they are currently looking for sponsors for the pieces to get the campaign underway.

When the campaign wraps up, patrons may choose to buy the sculpture they sponsored and take possession once the display period is over, or it may be sold at auction at a future date.
The Royal BC Museum is one of my favourite destinations and their the world-famous “Warrior Emperor and China’s Terracotta Army” exhibition will run from December 2011 until April 2012.

Very awesome. I love these projects. I’m thrilled there’s a new one.
But I kinda thought the general theme was local animals. Oh well, it’ll look great none the less.
Hasn’t this already been done to death – I was hoping that they had run out of ideas for these things. The Orca’s and bears were cool but enough already.
cool? I was never a fan. Not a fan of this ‘art’ form.
Very excited for this! What a great way to add some fun to the streets of Vancouver.
Loved the animals especially the orcas and was proud to take visitors to see them. What do terracotta warriors have to do with Vancouver? Who makes these choices?
