Delhi 2 Dublin Album Release Concert

Comments 20 by Rebecca Bollwitt

Delhi 2 Dublin will be playing the fabulous Commodore Ballroom May 7th as they celebrate the launch of their new album, Planet Electric.

I first heard the Bhangra / Celtic sound of Delhi 2 Dublin when strolling down Granville during Juno Fest 2009. The distinct pulsating melodies mixed with Dub Reggae and Electronica caught everyone’s attention as the tent hosting the group had the crowd spilling out from the street and onto the sidewalk.

Since that time my friend Keira has become a big fan and already has her copy of the new album. She describes it as: “Slickly produced with a seamless flow, Delhi 2 Dublin’s latest effort is solid evidence that they’ve mastered their art of East-to-West fusion.”

Tickets for the Commodore show May 7th at 8:00pm are $19.50 and available through Live Nation. It just so happens that I have two tickets to give away as well as a copy of Planet Electric. If you would like to attend the show & win the CD please leave a comment on this post or tweet the following on Twitter:

Band members are Tarun Nayar, Sanjay Seran, Kytami, Andrew Kim and Ravi Binning. A quote from their website reads, “Audiences love to see a band transcending stereotypes and letting the music speak for itself.”

They’ve been on tour for a few weeks now and from Vancouver will head out on the road straight through August hitting events such as the Joshua Tree Festival in California, the Harrison Hot Springs Festival, the Shambhala Festival in Nelson, and the Ottawa Folk Festival.

I’ll draw the contest winner at 4:00pm Tuesday May 4th.

Update The winner is Tracy Bains (Twitter entry), congratulations!

Update May 7th, 2010 Last night’s performance was amazing and the band was visibly humbled by the experience. Delhi 2 Dublin fulfilled a “lifelong dream,” by playing the Commodore Ballroom said front man Sanjay and you could tell they were just as excited as the sold-out crowd.

The audience threw up their hands and pogo’ed up and down while chanting for D2D as their unique fusion sound pulsated throughout the Commodore. Sitar music blended with wicked violin as kilts and saris twirled on stage. Beats made the crowd bounce as the energy on stage was contagious — everyone was having a blast.

Delhi 2 Dublin’s new album is available this month and you can catch them this weekend with shows in Victoria and Nanaimo.
