John comes from a proud line of Macintosh users and in 2007 he converted me into an Apple fan girl — and I haven’t looked back. Recently we needed to upgrade our arsenal (you know since having a Powerbook, Macbook, and iMac just wasn’t enough) and were on the market for a shiny new Macbook Pro for our business.

How John learned to use a Mac

I had purchased my Macbook from one of the big box stores and I do cherish the official Apple Store experience however since we are a local company, I thought it would be best to support another Vancouver-based business with this decision. As a result when Simply Computing added me on Twitter (@Simplydotca) I took it as a sign and decided to pay them a visit at their Broadway location.

The staff at Simply Computing was friendly, courteous, and well… they’re all Mac geeks like us. They know the product (since it’s their specialty) and even while I was there an associate was talking about how he became Apple Certified for Aperture. They’re the largest independent Apple dealer in BC (with seven locations around the province) and have been in business of providing Apple products and care since 1983. In 2008 they were also awarded Apple’s Commitment to Excellence Award for outstanding service.

I ended up getting a 15″ Macbook Pro for sixty4media that will be John‘s on-the-go machine. It’s everything we knew we were getting into and more since Simply tossed in a copy of Undercover for free (which every customer gets, not just us). This software helps retrieve a stolen Macbook by tracking and locating the computer (kind of like this, but in a more intended way).

To be honest, the Simply Computing retail location on Broadway isn’t “sexy” like the Apple Store by any means, but what they lack in decor they make up for in service, customer & technical support, and product knowledge. Aside from the Vancouver location you can visit them in White Rock and Langley (I hear the Langley store in Willowbrook is pretty fancy) as well as Victoria, Kelowna, Kamloops and Thompson Rivers University.

We’re very pleased with our purchase and also with the fact that should we need service on any of our Apple products, it can be taken care of expeditiously at a local location.

Disclosure: I was not paid to write this review and we paid for the Macbook

i’ve used simply for years now, every single one of their staff are friendly and courteous – never had a bad experience with them.

not sure if they still do it, but years ago they used to offer applecare refunds – so if you bought applecare from them, didn’t use it, you’d get the equivalent of store credit after 3 years.

I was lucky to have gotten in on that deal too, Paul, when I bought my iMac there. Have had great success there and would recommend them to others in town when considering a Mac purchase. They have good deals on slightly-older models too, from time to time.

These days slightly older can mean less than six months on the market LOL!

Way to go on the new MBP. I purchased one from Apple back in Dec (the older non-unibody one) and haven’t looked back. It’s rather weird trying to do Apple keyboard shortcuts when using Windows laptops at work.

I’m jealous of all you mac users! Before (because I used to game a lot) macs just weren’t enough for me, but these days with coding, photography and the occasional WoW session, a Mac will suit my needs, just not my budget. I miss macs 🙁 My first experience with a mac as an LCIII (68k mac).

I’ve heard nothing but good things about SimpleComputing, and (if I could afford to) I would definitely purchase a Macbook of sorts from them.

I have always said, ever since my LCIII, if I could afford a Macbook, I would get one. I’m still waiting for that day!

[…] hope, I’ll do my best to get some good photos and writing in this trip because of the recent upgrade of a MacBook Pro to our sixty4media arsenal. Many thanks to the guys from Simply Computing in Vancouver for their help with getting me this […]

I have been a customer of Simply’s for many years and all of our family have bought computers there for years but a bad experience last year turned me off them. I encountered a very rude and arrogant sales person who claimed the item that I was looking for did not exist. I bought it down the street fifteen minutes later. When I called to explain the situation to the manager his reply was a lame “Yes we are having problems with that employee”. Not very professional or satisfying. We now shop at the Apple Store and are very impressed with the courteous and very helpful staff. That you Apple for opening a store in Vancouver.

    Hey Rob,
I’m both disappointed to hear of your experience at Simply Computing and surprised it made you pack in years of supporting a local business. I would agree the response to your complaint was weak at best but I’m curious about what kind of response you expected? Or what kind of response would have made you stick with Simply Computing?
If you’re willing to talk about the issue that took place, I’d be more than happy to listen. Long time customers are not something we enjoy losing. I’d love to win you back.
    Yours,
    David Doyle

So would they have any idea of when a MacTablet (or iTablet) will becoming out from Apple?

I wouldn’t mind converting over when it happens…..
