Review: Skoah in Yaletown
byI’ve seen Skoah products before and since my old office was in Yaletown I have walked by before but I never knew the true extent of the Skoah experience until I was invited in for their Angel Glow Facial last Friday.
I’ve been to my fair share of spas, from hotel resorts, to Korean day spas and even medical school (where I was material on which medical aesthetics students learned to wax and scrub). Most spas have a calming and soothing atmosphere and with Vancouver-based Skoah it’s no different. Here are some of my notes:
quickie, killer feet, digit dose, and 6 packs
I have to note probably my favourite part (aside from leaving smelling like their vanilla/brown sugar Holiday Lotion) was the music. I did not hear one flute, nor did I feel like I was in an elven forest at any point in time. The tunes were soft yet included some awesome tracks like Zero 7 – In the Waiting Line.
The Angel Glow Facial is $60 and is about 45 minutes and the products available will not break the bank at all (you can get the Holiday Lotion for $18). You can also get a Mistletoe Makeover personalized makeup lesson for $35 this season. I highly recommend checking out this “specialty skin care shop”.

I agree – Skoah’s pretty awesome and has a very hip feel to it. Even my hubby gets facials there – I had to drag him there the first time (even his grandmother called to poke fun at him) but he had such a good experience that we now have a steady supply of skoah’s facial skrub & aha mask sitting beside our bathtub…and it’s not for me 😉
Hi Rebecca,
As a PR person I’m always looking for interesting branding – I recall Skoah’s positioning when they opened was “no whale music”. Love it!
I love that Zero 7 record. See also Moon Safari by Air. This has been your music geek moment for today. 🙂
My product-whore gay best friend in DC made me swear that I would go to skoah and buy their entire line. I didn’t, but he still makes me ship him “shave kream” every couple of months.
I’ve totally wanted to go to Skoah forever. Andrea Scott, being the workaholic she is, used to double as my PR cohort for a while and I’m such a hermit I never managed to leave the short to get my face worked out… must book something soon.
You should check out her cosmetic line too! http://www.chiikimunki.com/
I love their products and their facials come highly recommended by all my makeup artiste friends. They have a body butter that smells so good you’ll want to eat it, and it’s the most moisturizing thing I’ve ever tried.

Hmm I wonder what grade of ingredients they use. For example. I’m more drawn towards natural, or even organic ingredients where possible.
The problem with Skoah is that their products are really environmentally unfriendly: in evil #7 packaging, which contrary to what the staff tell you, CANNOT be recycled except by returning them to the store. I found the products mediocre and drying–but different skin = different results. If you go in, ask that they look into glass bottles or at least publish stats on how much pollution is caused by recycling their packaging.
