New Forms Festival Update

The New Forms Festival is well underway and with so much happening over the next week, here’s an update on some must-attend events.

Media maven, Megan Cole is producing Open Mobile this Sunday at the New Forms Festival:

This day is jam-packed with experts and leaders in the field of mobile technologies and platforms presenting case-studies, the actual “this is how this was done” – the goods. This is not your average tech event – far from it. How many times to you attend something “techy” related and walk away full of great ideas and inspiration, but are left scratching your head with “how did they DO that? Where do I even begin?”

The speakers and some of their session descriptions are found on the Open Mobile event page – and it’s FREE, with coffee and lunch provided for you! Sponsored in part by Mobile MUSE and presented as a part of the New Forms Festival, the event will delve into areas and projects on mobile platforms and technology, management, marketing, mobile video, a presentation on an internet-based audio public space project and, even cooler: a LIVE PRESENTATION from Chile from an artist and technologist who is exploring the mobile space in Chile and will be sharing his work and findings. This Friday is also Cross Pollination:

The theme Mosaics will be explored by Fond of Tigers and the Secret Mommy Quintet thusly: the most recent albums by each band will be broken up (electronically) into small musical shards, then rearranged into two new and reorganized pieces to be learned and played (with live instrumentation) by each band.

In addition to the live performances, there will be a few brief sound pieces which explore digital reorganizations of the material from each group’s most recent albums. Tickets are $15 adv / $25 door.

The New Forms Festival is also blending together with next Thursday’s National Digital Media Day:

On September 25th more than 32,000 digital creators will unite across the country to profile the digital media industry in Canada. A pillar of the knowledge economy, the digital media sector represents one of the fastest growing sectors and Canada’s best chance for taking the lead in this creative, green, and global industry. There will be a networking session with New Media BC at Radical Entertainment from 5:30-8:00pm followed by Politube from 8-9:30pm. [More info on the NFF website]
