The Vancouver Park Board has announced that the Stanley Park Easter Train will be running this season, after a limited ticket release for the Bright Nights Train over the holidays.
Stanley Park Easter Train
When: Friday, March 29 to Monday, April 1, 2024 from 10:00am to 4:00pm
Where: The Miniature Railway is located off Pipeline Road in Stanley Park
Tickets: A total of 5,700 tickets for the Easter Train will be available for purchase starting Tuesday, March 12 at noon, exclusively online here for designated time slots. Due to logistical and staffing considerations, tickets will not be available for purchase on site.
Pricing (exclusive of GST & service fees): All guests ages 3 years and older: $9; Children ages 2 years and under: Free
In 2022 the train was open for four days, the duration of the Easter Long Weekend. 2024 details are yet to be announced, aside from the fact that the train will be operational in some capacity.
The park board said demand for Bright Nights tickets this past season was unprecedented, with 23,000 tickets selling out online within 90 minutes. One of the fleet’s four locomotives was operational, and two were added later this winter expanding capacity and ride times into January. The train was out of commission, on and off, for several seasons due to COVID as well as mechanical issues.
UPDATE: The event will feature two locomotives and six carriages, including one that can accommodate children in wheelchairs. Guests can look forward to a family-friendly atmosphere highlighted by a visit from the Easter Bunny and engaging displays in the plaza. Local vendors will also be present, offering an assortment of sweet and savoury treats.
According to a post on X by Brennan Bastyovanszky, the train will once again include an accessible car. “As Park Board Chair, I directed staff to look into providing a sensory friendly time for neurodivergent children and their families.”
Following shipping delays of essential parts necessary to meet regulatory standards set by Technical Safety BC, the reopening of the accessibility carriage will ensure equal access for all. Park Board Commissioner Jas Virdi announced his intention to introduce an emergency motion aimed at reducing or eliminating ticket costs for the accessibility carriage for the remainder of the year. Additionally, Virdi plans to request the introduction of the Access 2 Pass program for the Stanley Park Train, allowing individuals requiring support workers to ride the Train together without additional costs. This initiative has already demonstrated success with partners like the Vancouver Aquarium.
Accessible Tickets
Tickets for wheelchair-accessible spots and attendants will be reserved in advance of the general sale. Complimentary admission is offered to support persons accompanying guests with disabilities requiring assistance. Tickets for children in wheelchairs and attendants of guests with disabilities must be booked in advance of the general sale by calling 1-844-307-7469 on March 12, starting at 8:00am.
While you’re in the park, don’t miss the beautiful cherry blossoms which should all be in full bloom at that time. Take public transit, ride your bike, or walk to the Easter Train. Parking is available in parking lots and streets in Stanley Park.
