The Richmond World Festival returns for its third year, attracting over 35,000 people to Minoru Park for two days of free family fun. The festival celebrates Richmond’s cultural diversity though music, food, sport and art from around the world, featuring over 75 artists on nine stages!

John and I go every year and it’s such a fantastic way to spend a day. There are so many performers, cultural pavilions, and food options. It’s also really easy to get to the grounds from the Canada Line, just walk over from Richmond Centre.

Crave Burnaby Heights is On Now

The Heights Merchants Association in Burnaby has launched its neighbourhood dining showcase, Crave, from August 16 to 30. Crave celebrates the Heights’ diverse food options with two weeks of new food specials, set menus, and happy hour discounts.

Crave kicks off today with performances by local artists Chloe Farrell and Stephen Scaccia between MacDonald and Madison Avenue. For more free nights of live music in the Heights, be on the lookout for buskers performing outside your favourite merchants throughout Crave, including Juno award-winning jazz musician Gabriel Hasselbach.

Crave specials are available whenever you’re yearning for food from your favourite Heights merchants. Pick up an award-winning pork belly bao for lunch at The Grey Olive, grab a specialty coffee and crostata from Caffe Divano as a mid-afternoon pick-me-up, or celebrate happy hour with a drink and a selection of appetizers at Chad Thai. Watch the Solar Eclipse at the Space Centre in Vancouver

Vancouver’s HR MacMillan Space Centre is hosting a community celebration for the the biggest astronomical event of 2017, the solar eclipse.

What makes this eclipse even more special is that this is the first time in 99 years that a total solar eclipse crossed the entire continental USA and here in Vancouver, we will be able to observe a 86% totality!

Watch the Solar Eclipse at the Vancouver Space Centre

Where: Monday, August 21, 2017 8:45am to 12:00pm
When: HR MacMillan Space Centre (1100 Chestnut St, Vancouver)
Admission: Admission, including solar glasses, is by donation. Regular rates apply to shows and activities in the main building. RSVP and get reminders on Facebook »

From 8:45am to 12:00pm the Space Centre will have a selection of solar telescopes, live streams, sun projections, and solar eclipse glasses for safe viewing.

Join the event on the grass outside of the Gordon Southam Observatory for this once in a lifetime event. During and after the viewing, the Space Centre will be open for special, eclipse-themed shows and activities.

Admission, including solar glasses, is by donation. Regular rates apply to shows and activities in the main building.

Our Cityride Vancouver

Join Vancouver’s biggest mass-participation, non-competitive bike ride this weekend! Our Cityride is for participants of all ages and abilities, and is focused around a fun and festive atmosphere.

When: August 19, 2017 festival 3:00 to 9:00pm, ride 5:00pm to 6:30pm
Register: Ride registration is $20 and youth under 18 register for free.

Founded by five-time Olympian Charmaine Crooks and former elite cyclist Mark Ernsting, Our Cityride celebrates the spirit of local communities and aims to cater to people of all ages and abilities.

The Festival

The festival is open to all and it’s free to attend. There will be a Kid Zone, entertainment stage, beer garden, international expo and free bike valet service.

Registered riders will be entered to win some great prizes including a trip for 4 in business class on KLM Royal Dutch Airlines including hotel, a NORCO bike, Canucks and Whitecaps tickets plus other exciting prizes.

Charity partners are the Canucks Autism Network and Heart & Stroke.

The Ride

The 17km ride through Yaletown, Chinatown, Gastown, Coal Harbour, Stanley Park and into the West End is expected to attract thousands of participants.

For the safety of those involved there will be strategic road closures and delays to traffic for a few hours during the event between 4:00pm to 7:30pm. All roads that affect residences and businesses will have a plan in place to help minimize all inconveniences.
