Partnering with the Burrard Arts Foundation for the 3rd annual Façade Festival, the Vancouver Art Gallery will host a large-scale and immersive projection mapping experience with stunning works from ten contemporary British Columbia-based artists for one week in September.

Façade Festival 2017 is a projection-mapping and outdoor architectural intervention that transforms the Georgia Street façade of the Vancouver Art Gallery with the work of emerging and established contemporary artists from British Columbia. These monumental projections respond to the urban environment with vibrant creativity and provide viewers with a unique experience of visual art within the public realm.
Organized by the Burrard Arts Foundation, five members of the local arts community made up the selection committee (Kate Bellringer, Christian Chan, Rachel Lafo, Chris Shier and Stephanie Rebick), collectively determining the ten artists included in this year’s festival.

A Façade Festival artist talk, Behind the Lights: the Making of Façade Festival, will be hosted by the Vancouver Art Gallery on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 3:00pm. The talk, led by several of this year’s artists, will feature a series of short visual presentations, providing background on the ideas and processes behind their projections, as well as how these new works fit within the artists’ larger practices.

The City of Port Coquitlam has put together Canada 150: Celebrate Our Journey, a free arts, music, and nature festival that features a full day of family fun plus a headlining performance from local international recording and touring sensations Delhi 2 Dublin.

The day will begin at noon with a celebration of rivers and trails in Lions Park, including an opening ceremony, live music and entertainment, displays, food, hands-on activities with environmental stewards, guided nature walks, and more through to 4:00pm.
Entertainment will include champion Lil’wat Nation hoop dancer Alex Wells and pop-up dance performances in surprise locations between Lions Park and Leigh Square.
In the afternoon, Leigh Square will come alive with hands-on arts and cultural activities, storytelling, dancing and music, along with food trucks and a beverage garden.
Other cultural activities at Leigh Square will include a canoe display and stories by the Kwikwetlem First Nation, and a chance for residents to share their story with PoCo Heritage, have a souvenir photo taken and get a sneak peek at the upcoming Terry Fox exhibit.
Event-goers can paint a tile for the Canada 150 Mosaic, a national public art project that is creating a giant mural made up of tiles and artwork from across the country. Port Coquitlam’s community mural, made up of tiles painted during the festival, will be installed at the Outlet in Leigh Square, creating a new piece of public art for the community.

The Richmond World Festival returns for its third year, attracting over 35,000 people to Minoru Park for two days of free family fun. The festival celebrates Richmond’s cultural diversity though music, food, sport and art from around the world, featuring over 75 artists on nine stages!

John and I go every year and it’s such a fantastic way to spend a day. There are so many performers, cultural pavilions, and food options. It’s also really easy to get to the grounds from the Canada Line, just walk over from Richmond Centre.
