It’s that time of year when the beach population soars, visitors and locals pack the city for festivals and activities, and we all partake in picnics or delicious take-out from our fine restaurants. While we can do our best to promote “pack out what you pack in”, and we love to keep our city beautiful, all the trash that is generated could pile up.
You can use the City of Vancouver’s VanConnect App to not only report overflowing litter cans in parks and on City streets this season, but you can also use the app to report abandoned garbage throughout the year.
You can report all kinds of issues on the VanConnect App, from graffiti to broken street lights and litter, all on the go from the palm of your hand. Abandoned mattress in the alley? Snap a photo and report it for cleanup. You can also find out when to water your lawn, upcoming road closures, and the latest news.
Once you have the app open, click on the Submit Service Request button right in the centre. Garbage & Litter, then select the type.
For abandoned garbage, you can report appliances, donation bin cleanup, electronic waste, furniture, garbage and miscellaneous junk, mattresses/box springs. The next step is to pin point the location on a map, add a photo (optional), fill in a few more location details and submit.
Adults throughout the province can feel like a kid again when they enjoy an Adult Pirate Pak to support White Spot’s 9th annual Pirate Pak Day charity initiative. For each Pirate Pak sold on August 15th, White Spot will donate $2.00 to Zajac Ranch for Children, an established BC charity that provides a once-in-a-lifetime summer camp experience to kids and young adults with life-threatening illnesses and chronic disabilities.
Pirate Pak Day at White Spot
The Pirate Pak is a legendary favourite that has been enjoyed by millions since 1968. The Pirate Pak was first created by Nat Bailey in 1968 to provide an exclusive dining experience for kids age 10 and under. This year the Pirate Pak celebrates its 50th birthday!
On August 15th, the Adult Pirate Pak Day menu will be available for dine-in and takeout. The menu includes a selection of the famous burgers (Legendary, BC Chicken, Bacon Cheddar and Veggie), sandwiches and more. All are served in the iconic Pirate boat, and complete with “endless” Kennebec fries, creamy coleslaw, a soft drink, a scoop of premium rich ice cream and a chocolate “gold” coin. View the full Pirate Pak Day menu for adults here »
BONUS! For every sleeve or pint of any one of our craft beers on draught, or any glass of wine from the 100% VQA wine list, White Spot’s partners will donate 25¢ to Zajac Ranch.
Almost a million Pirate Paks were sold last year (54,064 of them were on Pirate Pak Day alone). To date, White Spot has raised a total of more than $660,000 for Zajac Ranch for Children and sent more than 400 kids to camp.
White Spot will be sending kids to Zajac Ranch for “White Spot Week” from August 20 to 23. The kids will participate in a variety of activities such as horseback riding, kayaking, water sports and arts and crafts – an opportunity that wouldn’t otherwise be possible.
