The Ultimate Cooking Challenge When: 3:15pm to 4:45pm Where: Maillard Middle School Kitchen, 1300 Rochester Ave Details: For ages 10 – 15 years. Bring your skills & creativity to the kitchen and create some impressive dishes with our secret ingredients. Four teams will compete to impress the professional chef judge and take home the prize. The Stanley Park Ecology Society is holding its own Earth Day celebration on Saturday, April 27th at Lost Lagoon to support one of the planet’s most important ecosystems: wetlands.

In Stanley Park, our wetlands include Lost Lagoon, Beaver Lake,Ceperley Creek and all the freshwater spaces of the Park. These vital habitats act as nurseries, buffets, and shelter for a diversity of organisms including the Park’s Tree Swallows, Great Blue Herons, and a myriad of birds, amphibians and mammals like beavers and otters.
Pitch in to support your Park’s wetlands with some hands-on invasive plant pulls, invasive yellow flag iris weaving, and Tree Swallow data collection around Lost Lagoon.
Bring your binoculars for a tour of the heron colony with our naturalists, or learn about Indigenous uses of plants on a special walking tour led by Kushi opi mani wi of the Cowichan tribes. Kids will enjoy readings from the book “Bee Friend” followed by planting sessions in the pollinator garden. Enjoy Earth cookies and complimentary coffee from Ethical Bean.

BC Youth Week returns May 1-7, 2019 with events happening all around the province. This is an internationally celebrated event that aims to recognize the positive contributions youth make in our communities, and to celebrate the valuable work youth do all year round.
Since its inception in 1995, BC Youth Week has grown to include over 30 municipalities and non-profit organizations in BC.
