YWCA Metro Vancouver invites you to Rhythms of Resilience, an evening of music, dance and stories. As we approach National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the event’s theme centres on storytelling, resilience and the reclamation of voice and tradition.
Rhythms of Resilience Stories of Hope and Healing

Childminding available from 6:00 to 8:00pm for children 3-12 years old. Please indicate in your registration if you will be bringing children to the event who need childminding.
The stories, songs and dances of Indigenous Peoples are the heartbeat of their communities, carrying the wisdom and teachings of ancestors across generations. Yet, the colonial residential school system sought to silence these voices, stripping Indigenous children of their right to sing, dance, or speak their languages. Governments and churches banned sacred ceremonies as they attempted to erase traditions and destroy cultures.
The event will have art and testimonial displays from YWCA Crabtree Corner participants, Indigenous-owned vendor tables showcasing traditional and contemporary crafts, and healing spaces led by Elders, offering cultural support and traditional medicines.
Performers include Dancers of Damelahamid, Dakota Bear from Land Back Records, Pîsim Sb from Land Back Records, and Laura Grizzlypaws.
There’s still plenty of summer left in September, and a solid lineup of events happening around Vancouver. This month Miss604 sponsors the final days of the summer season at Burnaby Village Museum, Port Day at Canada Place (September 21), and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (Maple Ridge, September 29). TransLink presents Car Free Day Port Coquitlam on September 7th with a street festival, live entertainment, community booths, food and beverage vendors, and more in the heart of Downtown PoCo.

Location: McAllister Ave between Shaughnessy and Mary Hill
Admission: Free!
The festival will feature sustainable and active transportation, an electric vehicle display, an assortment of food and drink options, and entertainment including music, and dance performances. Enjoy family activities like mini golf, ninja obstacle course, and a bicycle skills zone, along with a lineup of entertainment on the Family Stage. There will be community booths from over 20 organizations including the BC Lions, Lilac Rain Crafts, The Zesty Lemon Clothing Co, and more.

The event strives for festival goers to find environmentally friendly ways of transportation to reduce carbon footprints. TransLink encourages sustainable transportation to local destinations via its many campaigns such as the Ride & Shine Campaign.
To get to Car Free Day in Port Coquitlam you can take one of the many bus routes: the 159, 160, 170, 173, 174, and 188 are all a few minutes’ walk away from McAllister Avenue. Bike Valet will also be there, so you can ride and park your bike with ease. Just like a coat check, there will be someone there to secure your bike, and you’ll get a slip for when you’re ready to ride back.
