Starting today, Science World presents Arctic Voices, the exhibition that takes visitors on an immersive journey into the arctic. Enjoy an immersive experience of the fascinating, changing Arctic through its many voices: its people, ecology, wildlife and way of life.

Science World Arctic Voices

Science World Presents Arctic Voices

When: Opens February 11, 2021. 7 days a week, 10:00am to 5:00pm
Where: Science World (1455 Quebec St, Vancouver)
Tickets: Regular admission rates apply, book online in advance

Presented by RBC with supporting partner Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, this 8,000 square foot exhibition takes visitors on a riveting journey over the tundra and into the world’s northernmost biome.

Developed by Science North, in partnership with the Canadian Museum of Nature, Arctic Voices invites you to marvel at the sights and sounds of this tremendous and fragile region. Dance with auroras, hop on ice floes and learn just how deeply connected our everyday lives are to the Arctic through this feature exhibition that will leave you awestruck and inspired.

Arctic Voices will allow visitors to explore the impact of the changing climate in the far North through many lenses, including the land, sea, and ice. They will connect with the remarkable animals that live in the Arctic, the resilient people that inhabit this region, and the dedicated scientists who are helping to reveal what makes this place so unique.

Interactive elements of the exhibition include:

  • Relax and appreciate the wonder of Arctic whales in the Whales in the Arctic Theatre, and visit the interactive exhibit stations about each whale species.
  • Enjoy Arctic Animal Adaptations by participating in a multiplayer quiz where you take on the role of the researcher and interpret the behaviours of Arctic animals.
  • Participate in Bear Facts and study real skull and claw specimens to compare the paws, claws, and jaws of the three North American bears.

The Cultch Presents Mx

The Cultch presents Mx, a boundary-pushing, bouffon-inspired work that explores what it means to be mixed-race and Black in the world today. Using bold risks, sharp comedy, and African mythology, Mx cracks open struggles of identity and belonging through the lens of a character stuck in the in-between.

The Cultch Presents Mx

Where: Online
When: February 18-21 & 24, 2021
Tickets: Single tickets $29. Also available as part of The Fuse Box or The Cultch’s 2-Box Subscription Package.

Co-directed by Donna-Michelle St. Bernard and Jiv Parasram, written by Lili Robinson with dramaturg Joanna Garfinkel, and starring Lili Robinson, Alisha Davidson, Emily Jane King, and Ivy Charles.

Beneath layers of identity, can blood equal belonging?

What of our culture lives within us, and how much is determined by our upbringing?  If a part of your identity has never been nurtured, do attempts to rekindle it amount to appropriation?

Seeking answers to these questions, our gender-questioning and mixed-race protagonist, Max, meets the famed Mz Nancy, our host for the night. Witty and glamorous, Nancy seems to have an answer for everything… but, as Max discovers, things are never black and white.

Post-Show Talkbacks

February 18, stay and hangout with the Mx team and other audience members in our digital re-creation of The Cultch on Gather.Town (created by The Cultch’s Digital Storytelling Team). Unlike a Zoom hangout, Gather.Town lets you choose who you want to talk with at any moment, join spontaneous smaller group conversations as you approach new people, and freely explore at your own pace.

February 19 & 20, join the Mx team for a post-show talk-back on Zoom following these performance—hosted by Community Partner BlackChat Vancouver.
