Canuck Place Gift of Time 2022 Raises $1.78 Million

Add a Comment by Rebecca Bollwitt

On Saturday Canuck Place hosted their 18th annual Gift of Time gala presented by Nicola Wealth and were able to raise a record-breaking $1.78 million! This will allow them to provide critical care to the children and families they serve when and where they need it most.

Canuck Place Gift of Time 2022 Raises $1.78 Million

Thank you to everyone who joined the event in person and online, donated, bid and learned more about the work Canuck Place does. Kudos to Gala Co-Chairs, Lucy Greer, Heather Finlayson, and Robyn Lalani on putting together such an incredible event. A big thank you as well to Erin and Federico Angel who shared their son Alejo’s story.

“We were tossed into the darkest place possible, and Canuck Place surrounded us like a warm blanket that lifted us up and helped guide us through the storm,” says Federico. “We chose to be at home so we could maximize Alejo’s life through what we felt was important – full access to our family and the opportunity to go on outings.”

Canuck Place nurse practitioner Rachel and clinical nurse specialist Nadine ensured the Angels were well cared for at home by providing equipment and medications to keep Alejo comfortable, and the guidance they needed to navigate the final weeks of his life. Another part of the community care available to all Canuck Place families is access to the 24-Hour Clinical Care Line, a call line for families to receive advice from specialized nurses.

“The call line gave us peace of mind that we had a lifeline. Someone to reach out to with any question or concern – without feeling bothersome,” says Federico.

Care for Canuck Place families starts at diagnosis and continues through the illness and well beyond the death of a child with grief and bereavement counselling. Canuck Place counsellor Mary Coleman is an integral part of Erin and Federico’s healing journey, providing a space for them to heal as well as their family.

As a non-profit organization, Canuck Place raises 60% of its operating funds, which is why events like this are so important. Your support provides critical care to over 830 children living with life-threatening illnesses and the families who love them.

When children and their families come to Canuck Place, they already know the end of the story. But how they get there hasn’t been written. Canuck Place aspires to make their story the very best it can be— because while they can’t add days to the life of a child, they can add life to their days.

Follow Canuck Place on Facebook for their news, events, and updates throughout the year.

Chor Leoni Remembrance Day Concerts

Comments 31 by Rebecca Bollwitt

For 30 years, Chor Leoni’s Remembrance Day concerts have created important moments of community contemplation and reflection. This powerful collective experience is one of the choir’s most cherished traditions and has resonated with audiences across Canada. Join the ensemble as they begin their new season with We Sang Our Songs, on stage at St. Andrew’s-Wesley United November 10th and 11th.

Chor Leoni Remembrance Day Concerts

  • When: Nov 10, 2022 at 7:30pm & Nov 11, 2022 at 2:00pm & 5:00pm
  • Where: St. Andrew’s-Wesley United (1022 Nelson St, Vancouver)
  • Tickets: Available online now for $20-$50

We Sang Our Songs offers a moving program of music and readings featuring diverse perspectives on war and injustice. Highlights include works by Gustav Holst, Arvo Pärt, and William Grant Still. The 65 voices of Chor Leoni will also sing Mykola Lysenko’s “Molytva Za Ukrainu” (Prayer for Ukraine), and world premieres by composer Stacey Philipps and the choir’s Composer in Residence, Don Macdonald.

While a number of the pieces of the program will feature the choir’s acclaimed a cappella sound, audiences will also have the opportunity to hear the voices of Chor Leoni accompanied by St. Andrew’s-Wesley’s new Steinway Model D piano, as well as the newly restored Casavant organ, played by Tina Chang and Jane Kim, respectively. The choir will once again be joined by Katherine Evans on trumpet.

Win Tickets

I have a pair of tickets to give away to the concert on November 10th at 7:30pm. You can enter to win by leaving a comment below on this blog post. I will draw one winner at random from all entries at 12:00pm on Thursday, November 3, 2022.
UPDATE: The winner is Laura.

Both haunting and healing, We Sang Our Songs offers the opportunity for audiences to gather as a community to contemplate, reflect, and dream of peace.
