In my mind the end of July marks the beginning of the end of summer in Vancouver however, looking at the event list and seeing how many awesome festivals, shows, markets, and community activities are on the horizon I’d say summer is far, far from over! Treat yourself and someone special to a beautiful evening that includes a three-course gourmet picnic prepared by local chef Adrian Beaty (from Salt & Thyme), as well as live music by alto sax player David Hampson – all in a gorgeous flower-farm setting. The gourmet picnic includes a grazing box featuring tzatziki, hummus, olives, feta, seasonal pickle, and breadsticks; salad niçoise with Albacore tuna confit; lemon- and herb-brined chicken breast with herb-roasted vegetables; and a summer fruit croustade for dessert. Each guest will also receive a glass of wine. As a special treat, at the end of the evening each pair will receive a hand-tied custom-designed bouquet of organically grown flowers. Local photographer Megan Ashley will be on site to capture photos for purchase.

This gourmet western-themed four-course picnic will feature live country music performed by Emily Taylor Adams as well as line-dancing lessons and prizes. Your gourmet country picnic prepared by local chef Adrian Beaty (from Salt & Thyme), includes house trail mix; maple-bacon cornbread; coffee-rubbed bavette steak; “Cowboy Caviar” salad; smoked leg of chicken with whiskey peach BBQ glaze; country potato salad; and Texas cowboy cake. Fraser Valley Sun & Soil Concert Series Saturday, August 27 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm Get Tickets $130 per pair
This concert series, held at various locations, celebrates the Fraser Valley’s unique natural beauty and highlights all the talents found within the valley by featuring local musicians, local farms and local food for an intimate and flavourful concert experience. This Langley edition features a 90-minute performance by local musician Kyler Pierce. Your concert experience is accompanied by a bottle of red or white wine from Backyard Vineyards, plus a charcuterie box for two from Salt & Thyme. While there will be some chairs provided, guests are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and/or picnic blankets.
The Chilliwack Sunflower Festival returns for its fifth year, beginning August 10, 2022. The first event of its kind in BC, the Festival draws hundreds of thousands of attendees to the Fraser Valley site where 50 varieties of sunflowers are planted in three display gardens. On top of that, there are also 50 varieties of dahlias, eight varieties of gladiolas, and a large bed of zinnias and cosmos.

Visitors can roam more than three kilometres of pathways throughout the fields, which are planted in stages so that all of the flowers can be enjoyed throughout the season in various locations. While weather conditions determine when the greatest number of flowers are in bloom, between five and eight acres will be in full bloom at all times.
The Festival has countless spots for photo opportunities, including an operational windmill, three vintage bicycles, a 1950s Morris convertible, a horse carriage, seven swing sets, a three-wheeled Harley-Davidson motorcycle, and new this year — a 1965 Airstream trailer.
Additional attractions include lawn games; U-pick sunflowers; a field-side store offering fresh-cut and potted sunflowers, sunflower seeds, bulbs (tulips and daffodils), souvenirs, ice cream, snacks, cold drinks, fresh Chilliwack corn, and local garlic. A local food truck will also be on site daily (two on weekends).
Free outdoor movies are returning to Surrey’s Holland Park with the Downtown Surrey BIA’s annual Movies Under the Stars. Grab your chairs and blankets, and spend an evening with family and friends in the park with entertainment and activities for all.

Other entertainment in addition to crafts, games and contests have been planned and there will be free popcorn (limited supply) so be sure to come early! The North Surrey Lions will also be selling hot dogs with proceeds going to local charities.
Movies Under the Stars aka MUTS began bringing the Surrey community together in 2005 and is back for the first time since 2019. MUTS doesn’t just start and end with movies, either: each evening is packed full of arts and crafts, games, activities, and live entertainment.
