Dine out Vancouver is back! January 20th to February 2nd. We’re going to participate this year since we have dinners out a lot anyway :p Last night we got take out from Hon’s – MAN was it ever busy, all them Robson holiday shoppers going for dinner. We haven’t gone out much recently since the flu’s had us both eating crackers and ginger ale for most of the week. i’m doing okay (besides the absolute boredom of being at WORK today) and i believe john is coming around as well.

The Canucks play the Mild in Minnesota on saturday. it’s a pay-per-view game but we’re going to order it anyway.

the following weekend is my birthday. i have that day off so we’re going to spend the day wandering around vancouver, i’d like to head over to kits and even the museum of anthropology. that place is really great – it’s near to my heart and i think john would really enjoy it as well. we used to go there about 3 times a year on field trips in school – it was our box factory, and we always loved it.

i’m not sure why it’s the only thing i can think of to do that day. my sister always comes up with something fun – i’m always open for suggestions. i think that saturday (jan 7th) we’ll be heading out on the town for whatever she/the city have in store for this soon-to-be 26 year old! (AHH!!) whatever we end up doing (and however it’s documented on jen’s digital cam) i just really want a candle in my pancake in the morning and i don’t really care what else i do. oh my, that sounds rude….i swear, it isn’t.

i had 77 visitors to my site in one day about a week ago when i posted the SNL “Lazy Sunday” vid (an all-time high for this lil blogger!). I have no idea who’s reading this but it seems as though there’s people from the UK, Canada, USA, Finland, Germany and Australia ‘tuning in’ to my daily not-so- adventures. i just try to write anything that’s on my mind – work, city events, family stuff… so i hope it’s somewhat entertaining. feel free to leave a comment anytime :p

now on to the canucks who broke their 5-game losing streak and defeated nashville (and their 6-game win streak) last night at the Garage 4-3. after being trampled by the alberta teams the ‘nucks slipped from 2nd in the division to 7th but after last night (and a loss by edmonton, calgary and the avs) they’re back on top in the north west. richard park got the game winning goal – i’ve got a soft spot for that kid.

the family is still passing around the stomach flu. this morning my belly sounds like bong water – i think i’m just hungry although still feeling a bit queasy. i haven’t done much for work today – just a bunch of invoicing and catching up on filing and reports. i work for a newswire service – we put out news over the wires. that’s right. i don’t want to get into too much detail, but it’s a pretty darn good gig.

I’ve posted some Christmas pics on my flickr. I’d love to put up more of my sister’s kids since they’re so freakin cute and funny and silly and adorable but she’s kinda iffy about that… and yeah i understand her not wanting pics of her children on the internet :p in the meantime, there’s pics of john and i, me in ikea with a lampshade on my head and me posing with the “Ladies Thong” my mother brought me from london that has the lovely logo on it “mind the gap”. Thanks Ma!

i think i’m going to run down to Tim Ho and get me a bagel for my rumbly/bubbly tummy. i heard that there’s msg in Tim Ho coffee – could this be true?

Edit: I’ll add some more suggestions for New Years in another post but I just found out there’s no First Night Vancouver – although there’s on in Surrey oooh! And I’m going to try and convince John to do the polar bear swim new year’s day…shhh 😉

i’m in a lime green mood, okay more mint. i don’t know why. i just changed my work desktop – it’s seasonal, usually, or depends on my mood. just updated it to a death cab for cutie concert poster (as the background pic) with a minty green backdrop… i’m not usually a fan of green. i like red… blue… pink… but it all depends. i like pink on panties and shoes but not as a haircolour.
let’s take a min to talk about christmas gifts. i got some really great presents – not the biggest fanciest things but i’m more pleased about what i got for other people – although the hat i got for john isn’t the right style 🙁

shoes, chocolates, clothing, and books. for books i got Talk to the Hand by the author of Eats Shoots and Leaves. Also, a book about Mythbusters, one of my favourite shows. I totally apply it to everyday life. For instance, they tested the ‘talking on the cell phone at the gas pump’ thing and proved it isn’t really a hazard.

Also, on House last night an inmate was getting an MRI and they warned him that his tattoos (which contained metallic ink) would get sucked out of his skin in the MRI- which is basically a big magnet. They tattooed pig skin on Mythbusters and it didn’t get sucked out, although they put a cube full of the ink in the MRI and it bounced around as though it was in a dryer.

I like getting books as gifts, as long as they’re something i’m really interested in reading – my mom knows my taste so she did good. i’m not much of a book reader, i don’t really have time. when i used to skytrain to and from work for 45 mins (each direction) every day i had the time to read. now, not so much – although i’ll have to make time for it …especially once jPod is released 😉

i thought it less like a lake and more like a moat

So the Canucks are on a 5-game losing streak. They are doing extremely poorly against the Alberta teams and have tarnished their excellent home record. Tonight vs Nashville Crawford’s shuffling things around. Bumping up Ruutu and Morrison is moving down 2 lines to join up with Cooke and Park. Nashville is currently on a 6-game win streak.
Other than not-so-happy hockey news..the last few days have been a bit trying, health-wise. My family had been passing around a 24 hour flu bug and i finally caught it on monday/boxing day. I wasn’t 100% yesterday but i was doing a lot better than John, who caught it Tuesday as well. hopefully he’ll be able to get on his feet today – or by the end of the week – since we have plans for people coming over New Years Eve. That, and it isn’t fun to be sick at all.

As for me, I’m back at work this morning. I opted to help out on the stat holiday (January 2nd) so in lieu of that day off I have my entire birthday off (the following monday). It shouldn’t be too bad considering I’m just doing a 5 hour shift on the 2nd.

I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday – that you’re all healthy and well. I apologize to all John’s nieces and nephews who feel as though Canada has stolen their Uncle John, he’ll be back there soon enough – just hope you don’t mind if I’m there with him – and I swear, besides this whole flu thing – we’re taking very good care of him 🙂
I’ll be sure to write more during the day since it’s bound to be VERY slow and boring. But in the meantime I’ll leave with a few bits of (local) news….

Blogging is bad for your career
Sinkhole on Pender Street
Surrey Hero
World Junior Hockey Tourney
Warm winter = bad news for Skiers

i didn’t think i would be blogging this weekend but i have to get this off my chest – so sorry to get anyone down about this but here it goes…

everyone is talking about Bertuzzi being on the olympic team and how outraged they are – how that’s not what canadian hockey is about and he’s a criminal and YADA YADA…. but um…I’ve barely heard ONE person (in all the articles I’ve read or all the podcasts I’ve listened to) mention Dany Heatley.

Does no one remember him being convicted of vehicular homicide?
Does no one remember Dan Snyder – the TEAMMATE he KILLED?
I don’t have a problem with Heatley being on the team – he’s a wicked player — but i will defend Bertuzzi if anyone is going to bring up the Moore incident. Just because it was on the ice, shouldn’t make it any different – one player’s career is over, the other’s LIFE is over
