Using social media for a cause is a fantastic idea and it seems big companies are catching on about how effective its tools can be. This summer Hellmann’s Real Mayonnaise is donating 25 cents to Evergreen for every use of #realfood on Twitter. This means every time you simply make an update and include #realfood, this non-profit gets a donation.

On July 29th Hellmann’s is taking it a step further and will up their donation to a dollar a tweet. That’s right, they’re hoping that this social media medium used by thousands across Canada will help them reach their goal of $25,000 by September 30th.

The campaign doesn’t cost you a thing, and Evergreen benefits. Sounds like a good idea to me.

19 hours into Blogathon and there are some silly things going on over here. People are overtired and some may have consumed one too many energy drinks. Regardless, spirits are high and good times are still ahead. Here’s a quick static time-lapse of my friend Duane’s desk at Blogathon.

I have been blogging about the Vancouver Canucks and the NHL since June 2004. The reason why I started putting thoughts and rants to keyboard in the first place was because of a close friend of mine nicknamed Temujin who ran a political blog called West Coast Chaos, Alanah McGinley (formerly of Vancouver Canucks Op Ed now of Canucks And Beyond fame, and a couple of her Crazy Canuck friends who I also in turn followed: John and Rebecca Bollwitt.

That’s probably the most morbid title I’ve ever had on a blog post but it’s something that happened today in Vancouver. The Sapphire Princess pulled into port (which we can see from our position here at Workspace) with a (now) deceased fin whale stuck to its bow. John Biehler, who was visiting us at Blogathon, walked over to the cruise ship terminal to take some photos.

His images ended up getting picked up by the Globe and Mail. It’s a pretty sad tale but I am happy that our friend got some exposure for his images, despite the grim circumstances.
