It’s no secret that hockey fever is alive and well in Vancouver… and it’s June. While it’s an unfamiliar feeling, it’s something this city’s been waiting for since Cyclone Taylor won the cup at the Denman Arena back in 1915. While browsing the Vancouver Archives’ blog, Authenticity, I noticed their latest post features hockey history in Vancouver. Fittingly, that will be the theme of today’s “Archives Photos of the Day” for June 8, 2011.

Capilano Suspension Bridge, one of the region’s most popular tourist destinations, has just added a new attraction to compliment the treetop adventure and of course, the bridge.
Jutting out from the granite hillside, Cliffwalk is high, narrow, and in some sections made of glass, in order to give visitors an unbelievably unique view of the forest and canyon below.
If you think you have what it takes to head out on the Cliffwalk, I have a prize pack to give away that includes 4 passes to the park and a $50 gift certificate for lunch at the Bridge House (total value is over $180). You can enter to win by doing any or all of the following:

June is bike month in Vancouver and as a result the Velopalooza festival is hosting weeks of events and themed bike rides around the city. Cadbury’s Bicycle Factory campaign and I will be hosting an event tomorrow night that will feature a screening of the documentary “Wheels of Change”.
What A documentary about the difference a bicycle can make to communities in Ghana Where The Roundhouse Community Centre When June 7, 2011 at 8:30pm (the film is about 45 minutes long) Tickets Not required. Just show up to watch the film & have some snacks
I’ll be saying a few words about my experience in Ghana and Cadbury will be providing refreshments including their products that you can use to help build and send bikes to school children in Africa. Please join us for this free event (ride your bike along the sea wall if you can) and check out everything else that’s happening with Velopalooza this month.
For the first time ever I am proud to say that June is all about the Canucks. Our beloved team has made it to the Stanley Cup Finals and although events around the region have been re-scheduled to make room for game nights, there’s still plenty going on in-between match up with the Bruins (and we’ll finish them off in less than 5 games anyway, right?)
Should you have a fundraiser, festival, or community event you would like to promote for free, you can send me an email to get it listed on the monthly event roundup. Please provide the name of the event, the date, and a link.
This morning the BC Hydro Power Smart team will begin their “17 Hours of Kesler” campaign. The Vancouver Canucks’ own Ryan Kesler has been a member of Team Power Smart for the last few years and for the next 17 hours, Kesler-filled facts will be sent out from the @PowerSmartBC Twitter account.
Power Smart BC sets up their their Playoff Power Off at the CBC’s fan zone on Hamilton near Georgia for Canucks games and it begins at 2:30pm on game days. You can learn some valuable Power Smart tips, find out how power consumption drops on game days, or try your hand at powering a TV with a bicycle.
To promote the “17 Hours of Kesler” and the Playoff Power Off at the CBC fan zone, Power Smart BC is giving one of my readers a Vancouver Canucks jersey signed by Ryan Kesler.
There are three ways that you can enter to win. Feel free to do one, or all three to better your chances:
1) Watch @PowerSmartBC on Twitter during the “17 Hours of Kesler” today and paste the facts in the comments section on this blog post.
2) If you’re on Twitter, you can also re-tweet one of @PowerSmartBC’s 17 tips and include @Miss604 to be entered in the draw. Re-tweet one or all of them, for up to 17 entries.
