You can meet your Vancouver online community offline at one of the following events:

Burnaby (SFU Cornerstone, Meetup Link), Langley (Agave Grill, Meetup Link), North Vancouver (TBD, Meetup Link), Surrey (TBD, Meetup Link), Vancouver (Ceilis Irish Pub, Meetup Link).

Social media isn’t just for making connections online, a large part of it (and often its main goal) is to bring people (friends, clients, partners, customers) together in an offline environment. The tag for Social Media Day on Twitter is #smday so you can share photos and updates from your local meetup.

KidSport and Triple O’s Campaign

Comments 90 by Rebecca Bollwitt

Triple O’s, makers of some of BC’s best burgers on the go, is supporting KidSport BC this month through an in-store and online campaign.

From June 20 to July 3, the public will be able to contribute to their local KidSport chapter when ordering off the Triple O’s menu in any of the 30 participating locations. Funds raised during the two-week period will help kids with financial barriers experience the benefits of sport participation by covering the registration fees for a sport season of their choice.

To help get the word out, here’s how you can enter to win a $50 gift card from Triple O’s:

  • Leave a comment on this post listing your fondest childhood sports memory – or why you think it’s important for children to be involved in sport (1 entry)
  • Post the following on Twitter (1 entry)
RT & @TripleOs will donate $1 to @KidSport http://bit.ly/jImUcb & enter you to win a $50gc via @Miss604 http://ow.ly/5shCB

That’s right, for every re-tweet on Twitter (up to 25,000) Triple O’s will donate $1 to KidSport. Enter to win a gift card and donate to a great local cause all in one shot. This campaign hopes to raise enough to cover the registration fees of children in 39 BC communities.

To learn more about KidSport, follow them on Twitter or Facebook and support them through Triple O’s this month.

I will draw one winner at random from all entries Monday, July 4, 2011 at 10:00am. Update The winner is Lelainia lloyd!

If you don’t come from the Tri-Cities, you might not know that the term refers to Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody – plus Anmore and Belcarra. So, yes, there are actually five municipalities in the Tri-Cities, but “Tri-Cities and Bi-Villages” is a little long and awkward. Plus, those of us who live here enjoy the slight inaccuracy.

Or perhaps we don’t sweat our name because we’re too busy enjoying ourselves. Summer is officially here, and there’s lots of fun to be had here in the Northeast Sector. Here is just a sampling of the events worth checking out:

What: A Midsummer Fête
When: Sunday, June 26 from 1:00-5:00pm
Where: Colony Farm Regional Park [map]
The skinny: Public Dreams and Metro Vancouver are inviting families to their free eco-art event, A Midsummer Fête. It’s an afternoon for families to get out of the city, spend time with each other and celebrate Nature and all her gifts. And there is a free shuttle operating from Lougheed Skytrain station, so you don’t even need to bring your car.
