Beck will be playing Deer Lake Park in Burnaby on August 19th as part of Live Nation’s Concerts in the Park outdoor music series.
Beck is currently touring in support of his critically-acclaimed twelfth studio album, Morning Phase and reviews of this tour so far are pouring in, like this one from New York in June: “Beck was absolutely awesome. This is, by far, my favourite show of the year, and very possibly ever! Beck and his amazing band played with excellence and enthusiasm. The crowd fed off their energy resulting in an unforgettable evening. Beck’s music spans two decades of creative genius and, if possible just keeps on getting better. The evening was a showcase of this. I’m thrilled to have been there.”

Rio Theatre Friday Late Night Movies
Friday, August 1, 2014 Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (Terry Gilliam, 1998)
Only visionary director Terry Gilliam (Brazil, Twelve Monkeys) could manage to make Hunter S. Thompson’s seminally gonzo classic, a psychedelic fever dream of epic proportions about a (very) drug-fueled Vegas road trip, into one of the most memorable movies of the 1990s. Featuring standout performances from Johnny Depp, Benicio del Toro,Tobey Maguire, Christina Ricci, and many more.
Friday, August 8, 2014 Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade (Steven Spielberg, 1998)
Famed archaeologist Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) returns for more death-defying adventures in the third instalment of one of the best-loved movie franchises of all time. Nazis! A quest for the Holy Grail! And Sean Connery!
But wait…. There’s More! We’re also screening Raiders of the Lost Ark at 7:00pm and The Temple of Doom at 9:30pm as part of a much-requested marathon. All Indiana. All night Long.
Friday, August 15, 2014 Ghost World (Terry Zwigoff, 2001)
Though only a moderate box-office success upon its initial release, director Terry Zwigoff’s (Crumb) comedy, based on Daniel Clowe’s (who also wrote the screenplay) comic book of the same name, has since acquired a truly cult status. The story follows two highly intelligent, fairly precocious, and somewhat cynical best friends (Thora Birch, Scarlett Johansson) who plan to move in together following high school graduation. As a gag, the girls respond to a man’s (Steve Buscemi) newspaper ad for a date… Then life get complicated. Also starring Brad Renfro.
Friday, August 22, 2014 Do The Right Thing (Spike Lee, 1989)
In addition to director Spike Lee casting himself in the lead as beleaguered pizza deliveryman Mookie, he also wrote the groundbreaking script (which garnered an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay), which still stands as a hot-button catalyst for conversation about racial tensions in urban America. On the hottest day of the year on a street in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, everyone’s hate and bigotry smolders and builds until it explodes into violence. With Danny Aiello, Ossie Davis, Ruby Dee, Samuel L. Jackson, John Turturro, Rosie Perez, Giancarlo Esposito.
Friday, August 29, 2014 Jumanji (Joe Johnston, 1995)
When two kids (Kirsten Dunst, Bradley Pierce) find and play a magical board game, they release a man (Robin Williams) trapped for decades in it, and a host of dangers that can only be stopped by finishing the game. Also starring Bonnie Hunt, Bebe Neuwirth, and David Alan Grier. Are you game?
