Holiday Train Stops in the Fraser Valley

Add a Comment by Rebecca Bollwitt

The CPKC Holiday Train has been touring Canada and the United States since November 20th and it’s almost at the end of the line in the Fraser Valley and the Tri-Cities!

Now celebrating its 25th anniversary, the Holiday Train raises money, food and awareness for the important work that food banks do in their communities while musicians play free concerts from the brightly decorated train’s stage.

How the Events Work

When the train arrives it will pull to a safe stop in front of the crowd in attendance. The stage door lowers and the band opens with its first song. After that, a brief presentation takes place with local food bank officials and other dignitaries.

Once complete, the band resumes performing a mix of traditional and modern holiday-themed songs. The whole event lasts about 30 minutes, and once the band plays its farewell show, the boxcar door closes, and the train slips off into the night on its way to the next stop.

Fraser Valley & Metro Vancouver Stops

Tyler Shaw and Kiesza will play the Agassiz stop on Sunday, December 17th at 5:30pm, Maple Ridge at 7:50pm, and Pitt Meadows at 8:55pm. On Monday, December 18th the Holiday Train will finish its journey in Canada by reaching Port Moody at 5:20pm, and Port Coquitlam at 7:05pm.

Meet Dylan

Dylan is an intelligent, resilient young man who wears a kind and inviting smile. You would never guess that Dylan spent 20 years of his young life experiencing poverty, starvation, and homelessness.

Dylan grew up in Saskatchewan in an impoverished and dangerous neighbourhood. He lived with his mom and siblings. “I was hungry often, there wasn’t a lot of money, and there was a lot of danger in my environment. It is a very dangerous environment for everybody, for women, for men, for kids.”

Dylan experienced parentification. Not only did he parent his sister, but he would also parent his mom to try and help her become a better parent. This amazing ability, at such a young age, did have a downside: “Parentification was challenging because I neglected my inner child.”

MONZO Pilsner and Burger Giveaway

Comments 55 by Rebecca Bollwitt

There’s not much that can beat the dynamite combo of a burger and a beer, now imagine that beer was a local craft brewed just for that exact burger and sides? It’s a dream pairing from MONZO that you can win a chance to try out for yourself!

MONZO Burgers Pilsner

MONZO Pilsner and Burger Giveaway

  • Visit MONZO at 1401 Granville St, Vancouver
  • This Italian-styled pilsner is dry-hopped with copious amounts of European hops. Available for $8 per 355mL can.

MONZO has collaborated with family-owned Abbotsford brewery Ravens Brewing Co. to introduce an Italian Pilsner specially crafted to pair with MONZO’s “best in beef” menu. The food-focused beer is available to order at MONZO and most Kitchen Table restaurant locations.

Light and crisp, the satisfyingly refreshing MONZO Italian Pilsner harmonizes seamlessly with the restaurant’s signature smash burgers and sides. The MONZO team gravitated toward a pilsner since it complements the naturally occurring fats in meat and cheese while pairing perfectly with salty fries and golden onion rings. Italian-style pilsners are unique to other pilsners in that they are dry-hopped with copious amounts of European hops, lending an extra layer of complexity and aroma.

The idea for MONZO’s Italian Pilsner was conceived by the restaurant team and brewed by Ravens Brewing Co., an award-winning brewery and distillery owned by Paul and Jocelyn Sweeting. An Indigenous Corporation, the brewery prioritizes relationships with local suppliers and B.C.-grown ingredients to develop a multitude of celebrated beers, many of which have earned acclaim at coveted competitions like the B.C. Beer Awards and World Beer Cup.

MONZO is a stylish restaurant and bar concept inspired by Milan, Italy’s 1980s “Paninari” movement – a subculture of youth that rebelled against slow-food traditions by socializing at panino bars and American-style fast food restaurants. From custom-ground smash burgers to hand-made chicken cutlets, soft serve gelato and beef fat fries, MONZO is “burger utopia” for the discerning and fashionable.
