June means that summer is so close we can almost taste it, like when you through the gates at Playland and catch the first whiff of mini donuts. We start the month with Vancouver Craft Beer Week, and Hats Off Day in Burnaby and continue with Surrey Doors Open, The Jessie Richardson Theatre Awards, Bard on the Beach, and so much more.

Bravo 50th Benefit for The Arts Club

The Arts Club is celebrating a spectacular milestone with its Bravo 50th Benefit, happening June 7th on Granville Island.

Bravo 50th Benefit for The Arts Club

artsclubbravo50Celebrate 50 years of artistic excellence at the Arts Club and help raise funds for the years to come.

The event will showcase artists, patrons, and community partners for a one-night-only stroll down memory lane. Saluting the past but looking into the future, all funds raised at this special evening go to the Arts Club’s youth and artistic development programs.

There will be a red carpet entrance starting at 7:00pm on Saturday, June 7th followed by a champagne toast with Vancouver’s favourite DJ, Red Robinson in the upper lobby between 7:30pm and 8:00pm. Hosted by Jackson Davies, Gabrielle Rose, Todd Talbot, and Deborah Williams, Cue the Memories will begin at 8:30am. This performance will highlight The Arts Club’s 50-year history with an all-star cast selected by Bill Millerd, Artistic Managing Director.

Cue the Memories, with Musical director Bruce Kellett and his combo, will include Leon Bibb, Ann Mortifee, Ruth Nichol, and Pat Rose from the original cast of Jacques Brel Is Alive and Well and Living in Paris, joined by Sara-Jeanne Hosie, Warren Kimmel, Jane Mortifee, Zachary Stevenson, Sibel Thrasher, as well as special surprise appearances and songs from Ain’t Misbehavin’, Cabaret, A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline, Mary Poppins, Les Misérables, Red Rock Diner, and Reflections on Crooked Walking.*

The party will continue at the Backstage Lounge at 10:30pm with a live band fronted by Zachary Stevenson (Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story) along with dancing, celebratory cocktails, late-night treats, and a silent auction.

Seating is limited for this special occasion so make sure to get your tickets now. They can be puchased for $150 for the show and after-party, for which you will receive a $100 tax receipt. Tax receipts will be issued after the event.

Win Tickets

The Arts Club has always been so supportive and accommodating, and I’ve had the pleasure of partnering with them for various promotions over the last seven years at least. They have offered up a pair of tickets ($300 value) to one lucky Miss604 reader and their guest to join their celebration. Here’s how you can enter to win:

  • Leave a comment naming an Arts Club show, past or present (1 entry)
  • Post the following on Twitter (1 entry)
RT to enter to win tickets to @TheArtsClub #Bravo50thBenefit from @Miss604 http://ow.ly/xpbc3

I will draw one winner at random from all entries at 12:00pm on Thursday, June 5, 2014. Must be 19+. *All programming is subject to change. Follow The Arts Club on Twitter and Facebook for more information.

BC Children’s Hospital Miracle Weekend

Add a Comment by Rebecca Bollwitt

The BC Children’s Hospital Foundation is hosting their 27th annual Miracle Weekend on Global BC at 7:00pm-11:00pm Saturday, May 31st and 10:30am-5:30pm on Sunday, June 1st. This two-day celebration showcases the best of the hospital, including patients, families, caregivers, and supporters while raising much-needed funds.

BC Children’s Hospital Miracle Weekend 2014

Throughout Miracle WeekendMiracle Weekend, corporate and community groups congregate on-site at BC Children’s Hospital to celebrate their fundraising accomplishments for BC’s sick and injured kids. The event sees over 1,500 visitors to its live celebration site and in 2013, a record $18.3 million was raised, benefiting research, educational programs and equipment at BC Children’s Hospital. Miss604 readers contributed $4,020 of that total last year as well, through my personal donation page.

  • Children’s Hospital cares for more than 85,000 kids each year
  • More than 78,000 children visit the hospital annually, 67 per cent of whom live outside the city of Vancouver
  • More than 170 open-heart surgeries are done at Children’s Hospital each year
  • More than 730 kids come to Children’s Hospital every day
  • One in every 100 B.C. babies is born with a heart disorder

Since 1988, British Columbians have raised more than $206 million through Miracle Weekend fundraising campaigns for the urgent needs of BC Children’s Hospital. Thanks in part to those donations, the way we care for children has been transformed.

Once again this year I am hosting a personal fundraising campaign to contribute to Miracle Weekend. Please join me in supporting the BC Children’s Hospital in helping them raise money to provide the best possible care to children across the province.
