Dining Out For Life is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year with over a hundred participating restaurants who will be donating 25% of their total food sales from breakfast, lunch, and dinner to the campaign on Tuesday, March 25th.
Dining Out For Life is BC’s largest restaurant fundraiser and it benefits two great Vancouver charities: Friends For Life and A Loving Spoonful.
These organizations provide support to people living in our communities with HIV/AIDS. All proceeds directly benefit the programs and services they provide free-of-charge, including:
- Over 110,000 meals per year delivered to those affected by HIV/AIDS in Metro Vancouver and surrounding regions
- Nutritional counselling and meal planning
- 60+ support therapies ranging from therapeutic massage to naturopathy, music therapy to yoga
- A weekly hot lunch program for youth affected by HIV/AIDS
- End-of-life care to people in their own homes
All you need to do is dine out at the participating bistro, eatery, cafe, or pub and you’ll help make a difference. Invite your friends and make a night of it.
Dine Out For Life Contest
For their 20th Anniversary year, Dining Out For Life is launching a social media contest that brings together two things people love: good food and free cash. On Tuesday, March 25, one lucky, social-media savvy diner will win $500 just for posting a food pic online with the hashtag #DOFL20. Secondary prizes include Official Team Canada hockey gear, restaurant gift certificates and limited-edition Dining Out For Life 2014 wine glasses. Full contest details are available online.
Follow Dining Out For Life on Twitter and Facebook to find out more about the campaign, participating restaurants, specials, and other information. Be sure to book reservations soon as this will be one busy day of dining out in Vancouver.
I’ve partnered with Honda Canada to take their vehicles out for a spin and explore our beautiful region. Most recently John and I took an Odyssey out to Squamish, one of our favourite day trip destinations.
Overnight in Squamish
We love Vancouver but one of its best qualities is that it’s so easy to escape the city. Last weekend we made our way up the Sea to Sky to spend some time in Squamish, where the very tip of Howe Sound meets the Squamish Chief, Shannon Falls, and dozens of options for trail walks and outdoor adventures. Dr. Jane Goodall’s Spring 2014 Lecture Tour is coming to The Orpheum in Vancouver on Tuesday, March 25th. Arguably one of the most influential and inspiring thought leaders in wildlife research and conservation, Dr. Jane Goodall will be reflecting on the extraordinary change the world has seen since she first began her research of chimpanzees, and share her reasons for hope in these complex times.
Where: The Orpheum in Vancouver
When: Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at 7:30pm
Tickets: Available online via UniqueLives.
The lecture will be followed by a Q&A and book signing by Dr. Goodall.
I have had the pleasure of seeing Dr. Goodall speak before, at We Day Vancouver in 2009 where she told the young audience: “Every individual makes an impact every day.” It’s a thrill to have another opportunity to see this living legend who has been named a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire and a United Nations Messenger of Peace.
Win Tickets to the Dr. Jane Goodall Lecture Tour
If you would like to attend this amazing lecture, Nature’s Path has offered up two tickets to a lucky Miss604 reader along with a Nature’s Path EnviroKidz prize pack that includes EnviroKidz Choco Chimps, which sales supports the Jane Goodall Institute, in addition to a month’s supply of EnviroKidz organic cereal and bars.
Because Nature’s Path EnviroKidz is a 1% For The Planet member, every time you buy one of our EnviroKidz products, 1% of the sales are donated to support endangered species, habitat conservation and environmental education for kids worldwide. Specifically, Nature’s Path EnviroKidz newest cereal, Choco Chimps Cereal, supports The Jane Goodall Institute, a global leader in chimpanzee protection by helping endangered chimpanzees who have been removed from the forest and their families by poachers.
By contributing to The Jane Goodall Institute, Nature’s Path supports important projects like Wounda’s Journey, a touching video documenting one special chimpanzee’s story of overcoming significant adversity and illness
Here’s how you can enter to win tickets and the prize pack:

I will draw one winner at random from all entries at 12:00pm on Sunday, March 23, 2014. More about Envirokidz Choco Chimps: Kids love the yum factor – tasty, chocolate flavoured corn puffs – and fun animals on the box, and moms love them because they’re certified organic, non-GMO, gluten-free, made with whole grains, and they’re free of toxic pesticides, artificial flavours and colours.
Update The winner is NicT!
For a city so active, there sure are a lot of places to sit down and take a break. However, I think it’s more a matter of having a place to pause and take in the stunning views than anything else. We have benches made of recycled materials, benches with commemorative plaques, benches where you can enjoy your latest food truck take-out lunch. Inspired by Vancouver is Awesome’s The Mighty Booth series, I found a collection of photos in the Miss604 Flickr Pool that feature these convenient outdoor seats.

The Hugs for Hunger Food Bank fundraiser is happening on the first day of spring as it supports the Greater Vancouver Food Bank, while you get to shed your lonely winter shell and hug some cuddly characters for the cause.

Throughout the day on Thursday, March 20, 2014 five teams of huggable animals and mascots will be spread out across the city from 8:00am to 6:00pm, rain or shine.
Look for them at the Vancouver Art Gallery, in Gastown, the West End, North Granville, and outside the Vancouver Convention Centre. All teams will then meet at the Art Gallery at noon and at 5:30pm.
For every hug, Spring Advertising will donate $1 to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. More valuable hugs, such as those on the Celebrity Hug Hit List could create donations of up to $100. Every $1 donated enables the food bank to purchase $3 of nutritious fresh fruit, vegetables, and eggs.
On Twitter, #HugsForHunger will be used throughout the day to spread information and to attract the animals to specific downtown locations. If you can’t get out for a hug, you can also donate online.
