The Tulips of the Valley Festival in Agassiz is a Fraser Valley spectacle that many wait all year to enjoy. Millions of colourful flowers spot the landscape, with the impressive snow-capped Mount Cheam looking on.

The Tulips of the Valley Festival begins Thursday, April 17, 2014 and will only last about two weeks, until all of the blooms are gone.

Wednesdays through Fridays 12:00pm to 4:00pm
Saturdays and Sundays 10:00am to 5:00pm
Closed Mondays and Tuesdays
Easter Weekend 10:00am to 5:00pm, Friday April 18th through Monday April 21st
Location
3971 Lougheed Highway, Agassiz, BC This year the fields are a 1km walk from the parking area. For safety reasons, everyone (including bus tours) needs to be dropped off at the parking area. Very limited handicap parking available. If you are unable to walk that distance than it would be best to visit on weekdays as handicap parking will more likely be available. To put this in perspective, it would be like walking from Davie to Georgia downtown — it’s not that far! Plus, the beauty of the festival is absolutely worth it.
Admission
Adults $3; seniors $2.50; kids 12 and under are free. Groups of 10+ are $2.50 per adult.
Parking rates do apply. All proceeds for parking are going to the Seabird Travel Club allowing families the opportunity to travel when otherwise unable. Cars $5; small buses $10; large buses $15.

Located at 1694 Tranmer Road in Agassiz, the tulip stand is open daily from dawn to dusk.

Bad Dog Productions presents its highly successful Western Canadian exclusive production of The Hound of the Baskervilles in Vancouver at Studio 1398 on Granville Island from Tuesday, April 22nd through to Saturday, May 3rd, 2014.
The Hound of the Baskervilles on Granville Island
Directed by Langley-based, multi award-winning director, Ellie King, this imaginative and hysterical spoof of the classic Sherlock Holmes story is a challenging, yet highly entertaining piece of theatre filled with lightning fast changes of character, scenery, and costume.
The Hound of the Baskervilles is one of the most famous detective stories ever told. The noble Baskerville family is threatened by a curse: “a great, black beast larger than any hound that ever mortal eye has rested upon” terrorizes and kills any family member who comes to live at the Baskerville estate. Into this atmosphere of lonely moors, ancient secrets, deadly threats, and ghostly apparitions comes the supremely rational Sherlock Holmes – a man described by his friend Watson as “the most perfect reasoning and observing machine the world has ever seen.” Piece by piece, Holmes and Watson solve the mystery and find the culprit.
I attended the premiere in Surrey last fall along with members of BC’s Sherlock Holmes Society who called the production a “wonderfully hilarious spoof.”

Drew and Danielle McTaggart of Dear Rouge have come a long way since I met them in a West End coffee shop back in 2012. They’ve since won the Peak Performance Project, played festivals around BC, toured across Canada, and hosted successful charity fundraising events. As they’ll also be on stage at Surrey’s Party for the Planet on April 26th, I caught up with Danielle on the road last week as they arrived in Toronto after a cross country road trip.
“As you grow, your home community is really fun to play in because you keep building from where you started — it feels great to play local shows,” Danielle told me over the phone. They’ll have plenty of friends and family at the Party for the Planet show since they’re known – by me at least – as never failing to have a hearty cheering section at their concerts.

One reason for the outstanding local support for the band definitely stems from their work in the community. They recently hosted their second annual fundraising concert for The Centre for Child Development in Surrey, raising over $15,000. “It was just really cool to see the support of people that wanted to help out The Centre. It was a really great event and it was exciting to see people being so generous.”
After the tour, and their homecoming, Dear Rouge will be focusing on their first full length album later this year. “We are going to be around finishing our album up so that we can get that out. We have about nine songs done right now and we are still debating whether we should write a few more songs or whether we should take song of the songs from our EPs,” said Danielle.
The previously-released “Head’s Up Watch Out” EP was used for their (winning) Peak Performance Project submission and they have also released “Kids Wanna Know” with the single “Thinking About You” which had steady radio airplay in Vancouver. They have been playing new songs at their shows, which also haven’t been recorded, so the album should be full of great material.

The group is now heading back across Canada, playing in Saskatoon on April 3rd, Calgary on April 4th, Golden on April 5th, Kelowna on April 9th, with a hometown show in Vancouver on April 10th before crossing over to Victoria to play Lucky Bar on April 12th.
Dear Rouge will join other Main Stage performers Said the Whale, Andrew Allen, Jordan Klassen, and Jeremy Fisher at Party for the Planet on April 26th in Downtown Surrey.
