Comments 1 by Rebecca Bollwitt

I’m continuing my vacation out on the East Coast — and missing spectacular Pacific sunsets like I saw via photographs online last night — but for you in Vancouver, there is another great weekend of warmth, events, festivals, activities, and spring fun ahead.

Araxi Restaurant is now accepting reservations for their popular summer longtable series happening in Vancouver and Pemberton. This al fresco dining experience is set in two striking locations, driving home the farm-to-table concept through locally sourced and crafted four course menus.

Araxi Longtable Series

Award-winning Executive Chef James Walt will craft exclusive menus that showcase his internationally recognized farm-to-table dishes. With wine pairings by Samantha Rahn, 2013 Sommelier of the Year, and service orchestrated by renowned Restaurant Director Neil Henderson, the Longtable Dinners salute both Araxi’s culinary provenance and it’s future. This year, as a convenience for guests, the dinners will be staged on the BC Day and Labour Day long weekends.

Vancouver @ Bard on the Beach, Vanier Park
Monday, August 3, 2015
This dinner will welcome 250 guests to a dramatic urban setting, and Chef Walt will be supported by his Vancouver-based Toptable Group colleagues, chefs Frank Pabst of Blue Water Cafe, Andrew Richardson of CinCin Ristorante, Quang Dang of West Restaurant, and Thierry Busset of Thierry Chocolaterie Patisserie and Cafe.

Pemberton @ North Arm Farm
Saturday, September 5, 2015
The Pemberton Longtable Dinner will be the longest table staged at North Arm Farm to date. Chef Walt’s menu embraces the extraordinary local ingredients, harvested at the peak of the season, and guests will have the opportunity to meet the farmers and suppliers, and tour the organic fields where, just hours before, farmers pick the produce next to the outdoor kitchen.

Elegant yet informal, guests may arrive as strangers, but leave as long-lost friends. Tickets are just $159 plus tax and gratuity, and include a four-course dinner served ‘family style’ with selected wine pairings. The longtable dinners sell out quickly; tickets can be purchased online or via email at [email protected].

Burnaby Heights Hats Off Day 2015

Add a Comment by Rebecca Bollwitt

The first Sunday in June sees tens of thousands of people take to Hastings street in Burnaby Heights for Hats Off Day, a free family festival where Heights merchants “take their hats off” to their community and their customers. This is a huge one-day extravaganza featuring a colourful main-street style parade with real local flavour, followed by a big street party.

Burnaby Heights Hats Off Day 2013

This entire ten block stretch of Hastings is shut down to traffic and the streets get packed with activities, entertainment, and delicious food samples. It’s fun for every age and it’s also dog friendly so bring your four-legged family members too. With multiple activities and attractions, each block has something to experience.

Family Fun Dash
The day kicks off with the Family Fun Dash where families dash down Hastings Street in a three-block race, starting at 9:30am. The start line is at Madison Avenue and the finish line is at MacDonald Avenue. All proceeds benefit the Burnaby Firefighters Charitable Society. Click here to register you and your child for the Family Fun Dash.

Parade
Following the Family Fun Dash, the Hats Off Day Parade starts at 10:00am. This 10 block long parade begins at Beta Avenue and proceeds down Hastings Street up to Boundary Road. You can expect plenty of glitz and glam parading down Hastings with the theme as “Hollywood” this year.

Show and Shine
The Show & Shine will begin at approximately 11:00am, immediately following the Parade. As in previous years, the Show & Shine takes place along Hastings Street between Willingdon and Gamma Avenues. Once the Show and Shine begins, volunteer judges will be inspecting the vehicles after they are parked on Hastings Street.
