5 Things to do Before Summer Ends in Vancouver

Add a Comment by Rebecca Bollwitt

Back to school, cooler weather, and trading in your flip flops for some comfy flats (or even some gumboots). Most summer vacations are coming to an end in Vancouver and while the city always offers great attractions and activities, there are a few that will only be available for a limited time.

5 Things to do Before Summer Ends in Vancouver

Family Admission at Capilano Suspension Bridge

For the month of August, families of 4 or more receive 30% off admission after 4:00pm at Capilano Suspension Bridge Park. Experience the Cliffwalk, Treetop Adventure, and of course cross the world famous bridge.

Sea Monsters Revealed at the Vancouver Aquarium

Ending September 7th, check out Sea Monsters Revealed at the Vancouver Aquarium. This has been a wildly popular exhibition that takes a look inside sea creatures, from the everyday to the outrageous — like a two horned Narwhal!

Theatre Under the Stars

Last chance to watch Oliver! and Hairspray. These entertaining musicals will end their run at Malkin Bowl on August 29th as Theatre Under the Stars closes for the season.

Salsa Dancing at Robson Square

Free Sunday salsa dancing (with lessons) ends on Sunday, August 30th. Learn some moves and put them to use with some great music and atmosphere under the cover of Robson Square.

Free/Outdoor Movies

Free outdoor movies, happening weekly in local parks from Tsawwassen to Stanley Park and everywhere in between, are coming to an end and only a few remain scheduled this week. Bring the family out to Big Hero 6 at Holland Park on August 29th, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire at Canada Place on August 27th, and Ice Age: Continental Drift on August 26th at Wesbrook Village.

Honourable Mentions: Of course I can’t talk about the end of summer without mentioning The Fair at the PNE and its concert series. There’s also the Queen Elizabeth Park zipline but it will be open through September. Finally, we’re lucky to have beautiful beaches at every time of year, spending the day on the sand with friends and family, playing in the crashing surf, but nothing beats a warm summer night and a fiery sunset from the shore. Check out my picks for the best sunset beaches in Metro Vancouver.

This barrel-aged imperial pumpkin ale is a full-bodied, spiced pumpkin ale that’s been aged in bourbon barrels, producing a rich and flavourful beer.
