TransLink is delivering a massive increase in service on 53 routes this fall, which are used by more than 100,000 people every weekday. This marks the beginning of the largest expansion to bus service since 2018, made possible through the recently passed 2025 Investment Plan.

These changes aim to address overcrowding, improve customer convenience, and extend service hours throughout the region.

“While so many other North American cities had to make transit cuts following the pandemic, we are instead investing in the biggest increase to bus service since 2018,” says Brad West, Chair, Mayors’ Council. “I’m pleased to see expansion begin from the 2025 Investment Plan, which will improve commutes for residents throughout Metro Vancouver.”

Starting September 1, service will increase throughout the region including boosts to routes serving schools and jobsites to support students and workers returning to regular schedules.

  • More service on the five most overcrowded routes
    • 321, 335, 345, 393, and 503
  • Service increases on 13 of the highest ridership routes
    • 5/6, 9, 16, 19, 20, 49, 99, 100, 130, 321, 335, R1, and R4
  • Adding midday service on weekdays on Route 388 through Surrey
  • Targeted boosts to 25 routes serving UBC, Langara, Douglas College, BCIT, SFU Burnaby, SFU Surrey, and Capilano University.
  • Better access to popular industrial jobsites like Annacis Island, Mary Hill Business Park, Port Kells Industrial Area, and the Rosemary Heights Business Park.

Fall Service Changes will directly benefit some of Metro Vancouver’s busiest travel corridors, including downtown Vancouver, UBC, Burnaby, New Westminster, Surrey, and Langley.

Nearly one-quarter of the total bus service expansion funded through the 2025 Investment Plan will roll out this September, with further improvements coming quarterly. The investment plan was approved by the Mayors’ Council and partially funded by the Government of British Columbia.
