Timeraiser Vancouver
byTimeraiser is coming to Vancouver for the second time on September 24th at the Roundhouse in Yaletown. It’s “part volunteer fair, part silent art auction and part night on the town.”
Timeraiser is an event targeted for those who would like to give back but not by necessarily writing a donation check. It matches you with agencies so that you can apply your skills to help them out in whatever capacity, and help out.
This is Vancouver’s second Timeraiser event and participating agencies include the MS Society of Canada, BC & Yukon Division, Stanley Park Ecology Society, Vancouver Celebrates Diwali Festival, Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver, and many more.
If you’re an artist or are interested in local artwork, the silent auction part of Timeraiser may also be of great interest. The idea is to not bid money on the artwork, but pledge volunteer hours instead. At the end of the auction they will announce the number of hours raised that will contribute to the community. To date the event has invested over $295,000 in the careers of 450 artists across Canada.
You can read the Timeraiser FAQ for all of the details, or check out their website or Facebook page for more information.
Tickets are $20 which also translates to a pledge of 20 volunteer hours over the course of 12 months (this can be updated at the event).
I was invited to the media launch last night but due to being out with the flu I was unable to attend. However, thanks to one of Timeraiser’s partners, Molson, I have a few tickets to give away for this. If you are looking for volunteer hours to apply your skills to a deserving agency, please leave a comment below and I’ll draw some winners by the end of the week.
Update: I drew two winners and they are Greg as well as Mandy – thanks everyone and have a great time at the event!

I am totally interested in the silent auction, would be lovely to check out and support some local artists! I also have done a lot of volunteer work in the past, so I think this is a great opportunity for people to meet great agencies and if possible, take the first steps in donating a bit of their time to some wonderful causes.
I’ve spent many years of my working life with non-profit organizations, so I know how valuable volunteers are. I’d love to give some of my time for a worthy cause.
I’m looking for a great art piece for my living room, so why not volunteer for a worthy cause as well…it’s a win-win situation!
This sounds like something I would totally like to do! Pick me?

I’ve been to this event in Toronto before moving here to Vancouver. It’s a fantastic event — not only are you supporting local artists, but it’s a great way to give back to the community. Plus, it’s a fun night out!
Always try to stay involved in community organizations, and this sounds like a great event. Just moved back to Vancouver so would love to be hear about some of the groups that could use an extra set of hands over the next year. Plus maybe acquire a piece of art?
I attended last year and it was so much fun! I didn’t win artwork, but did meet lots of great agencies. Tim P is right – a great night out and way to meet really interesting people.
It seems like a fantastic event, would love to go.
I want in 🙂
I can’t make it on the 24th but I think it’s an amazing concept. Am following them on twitter to keep in the loop for future opportunities.
A fantastic concept – kudos to everyone involved. Would love to attend! Thanks for hosting the draw.
