Chants of “We Want Bif!” filled the atmosphere as the loving crowds gathered to catch Bif Naked‘s performance at Surrey’s Canada Day celebration.

I first heard Bif Naked back in 1995 when I caught Daddy’s Getting Married on CFOX and I was an instant fan. Over the years she’s become the queen of Canadian rock, proving time and time again that our country can produce strong, talented, a**-kicking female talent. She also write poetry (has two spoken word albums) and has done some acting.

We heard tracks from her latest, The Promise, as well as catchy hits such as Moment of Weakness, Lucky, and even a cover of Metallica’s Nothing Else Matters.

She drove the fans so crazy that an encore was inevitable so when she came back on stage she lit it up with Spaceman.

Last year Bif was diagnosed with breast cancer and has been in a constant battle ever-since. She’s pretty amazing as her show was as energetic as any other and she’s also just returned from a cross-country tour. How she finds the time and energy I’ll never know but the audience at Canada Day truly appreciated seeing her and watching her perform.

Bif also keeps a blog and is active on Twitter @BifNaked.

Pretty amazing that she is still doing this and battling cancer at the same time. On a similar note, I was at the Yukon River Quest last week, a 740 km race between Whitehorse and Dawson City, and met the ladies from “Paddlers Abreast” who are all breast cancer survivors who race together in a big voyageur canoe. Pretty cool.

this “queen of canadian rock” used drum sequencing and computers to produce her studio albums. and her current hits get played on top 40 radio. this isn’t “rock”.

Umm no Steve. Where do you get your “information” from anyways? I personally know several of the people Bif has worked with and they have all worked hard and poured their hearts and souls into every record. Doug Fury for example, is a good friend of mine and has appeared on most of Bif’s albums and helped with the producing. He has his own studio called Fortissimo Sounds and the CEO for Doug Fury Inc. He also toured with her for 11 years.
Scotty McCarger was the drummer behind Superbeautifulmonster and voted best drummer in Canada for 6 years in a row.
Jason Darr recently produced “The Promise”. He is an amazing producer, so I can see why you would get him confused with a computer.
