Vancouver Whitecaps Are Canadian Champs Again

Fresh off of winning a record eighth Cascadia Cup, Whitecaps FC’s title as Canadian Champions qualifies them for the 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup – the continental championship tournament in which the ‘Caps went on an epic run and reached the final earlier this year.

In this inaugural “604 Derby” match, Ali Ahmed scored a brace in the 4-2 victory and he also took home the 2025 George Gross Most Valuable Player Award. Jayden Nelson received the 2025 TELUS Canadian Championship’s Best Young Canadian Player Award.

Thomas Müller not only scored a PK, but he also raised his 35th professional soccer trophy, breaking a tie with Toni Kroos and making him the most decorated German footballer of all-time. This historic match also saw the return of team captain Ryan Gauld, who not only subbed in for the first time since March of this year, he also scored mere minutes later.

There was a crowd of over 18,000 supporters and before the match, Whitecaps FC pledged to donate $1 from every ticket to BC Soccer to support the future of the sport in British Columbia.

Whitecaps FC also confirmed that limited tickets remain for the final two MLS regular season home matches at BC Place – Sunday, October 5 against San Jose Earthquakes and Saturday, October 18 against FC Dallas. More than 22,500 tickets have already been sold for both matches. The ‘Caps previous three weekend MLS home matches have all sold out.
