Chefs Charity Dinner Highlights Sustainability, Benefits Mental Health Programs
The Dan’s Legacy Foundation’s annual Chefs Charity Dinner is coming up on November 8th, highlighting not only sustainability and food security, but also benefitting their incredible mental health programs for youth in Metro Vancouver.
Recovered Food and Sustainability
Each year at the dinner, talented guest chefs prepare a signature dish using recovered food.
Dan’s Legacy collects donated surplus food from six grocery stores every day and distributes the products to eleven community partners operating food banks or soup kitchens. In 2023 they diverted close to 190,000kg of food and provided over 340,000 meals.
A portion of the food collected is also redistributed into the foundation’s work skills development programs for youth at risk. Youth learn basic cooking skills and small restaurant operations, as well as inventory management and “swamping” (drivers assistant) to help prepare them for full time employment. Dan’s Legacy’s work skills development program is clinically supported by their counselling and wrap-around programs, ensuring the youth are able to maintain their employment and mental health stability.

Entertainment journalist Erin Cebula will be returning as emcee for the 12th annual event, alongside local dignitaries and supporters. The Chefs Charity Dinner has previously been held in Delta, Fort Langley, New Westminster, and other communities where the organization has reach and impact.
All funds raised will directly support the trauma-informed, no-barrier counselling programs for at risk youth offered by Dan’s Legacy in Surrey, and across Metro Vancouver.
